Fidelity dan Schwab Dorong Aturan Kripto Baru AS - Tapi Bisnis Pribadi Trump Malah Jadi Sandera

Fidelity and Schwab Push for New US Crypto Rules - But Trump’s Personal Ventures Stall Progress

The obstacle to passing US crypto regulations is coming from an unexpected direction: the president’s own investment portfolio. A post by WatcherGuru, which drew 4,594 likes and 396 retweets, noted that Donald Trump’s series of crypto ventures has become the main bottleneck stalling the CLARITY Act.

The bill was drafted as comprehensive legislation defining jurisdictional boundaries for digital asset oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The hurdle is no longer pushback from the industry, but rather overlapping conflicts of interest entangling Capitol Hill.

Personal Business Maneuvers Amid National Policy

Trump has long positioned himself as the chief champion of the pro-crypto agenda. However, his personal crypto ventures have introduced political complications that hurt the bill’s chances of passage. The president is known to have ties to the TRUMP meme coin, and his team was recently reported to have moved $16.9 million worth of the asset.

This multi-million-dollar asset transfer provided an opening for Senate opposition. Democratic senators immediately seized on the president’s personal business ties to attack the CLARITY Act draft, labeling it an “unserious” piece of legislation.

Why Did It Fail to Follow in the Footsteps of the GENIUS Act?

Tug-of-war in Congress has left the fate of this comprehensive bill lagging behind other piecemeal regulations. Previously, the GENIUS Act, which specifically established a regulatory framework for stablecoins, sailed through smoothly and was signed into law in July 2025. But for the much broader CLARITY Act, the legislative process has repeatedly reached a stalemate.

The Senate had brought the CLARITY Act to a vote despite falling 7 votes short of support. As previously confirmed, this forced effort ultimately fell through before lawmakers entered their August recess.

Wall Street Players Left Waiting

Two traditional financial institutions, Fidelity and Charles Schwab, had previously urged the Senate to expedite the passage of the CLARITY Act. Market participants are awaiting jurisdictional clarity, as the rules are expected to fundamentally reshape the US crypto landscape.

The scale of the transformation has even been compared to the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) stocks, whose valuations climbed from a few trillion to $22 trillion. Currently, fresh capital entering the crypto sector remains on hold pending legal clarity.

For investors, this top-level conflict proves that supportive promises from politicians often get derailed by their own financial interests. As long as the line between personal wallets and policymaking tables remains blurred, market participants must prepare for a stagnant regulatory landscape.
