The development entity behind derivatives exchange Hyperliquid has unstaked 3.75 million HYPE tokens from its staking contract. The assets, valued at $331.4 million, were moved according to on-chain tracking data from Lookonchain.
This massive unlock has drawn significant attention from the DeFi community. Primary concerns centered on potential liquidity impacts and market price pressure, particularly as Hyperliquid navigates an important expansion phase of its derivatives platform into Singapore.
However, the final destination of the millions of tokens indicates they are heading away from retail order books.
Distribution Through Private Channels
The unstaked HYPE tokens were not intended for open exchanges. The development team designated them for two primary purposes: distributing vested allocations to core project team members and facilitating Over-The-Counter (OTC) transactions.
OTC sales allow high-volume token transfers between institutional parties without routing through public exchanges. This move shields the market from sudden price shocks that typically occur when massive volumes are dumped onto public order books all at once.
On-chain data shows that not all 3.75 million tokens changed hands. A total of 1.25 million HYPE, valued at roughly $110.57 million, was immediately restaked into the network shortly after being withdrawn.
Where the Remaining Tokens Went
The remainder of the initial withdrawal was split between two custody wallets. The largest portion, amounting to 1.875 million HYPE, now sits in a wallet address ending in 0x8757.
Meanwhile, a smaller portion of 625,000 HYPE was transferred to a separate wallet. This portion was valued at around $55.37 million at the time of the transfer.
By restaking a third of the assets and keeping the rest off exchanges, the development team opted for a controlled approach to managing HYPE supply. For regular token holders, wallet 0x8757 and the core team custody wallets have become key indicators to watch for when new supply might actually enter open market circulation.
