Pi Network has officially kicked off preparations for deploying the Protocol 28 network upgrade on Mainnet, scheduled for Oct. 16, 2026. To ensure a seamless transition, the Pi Network Core Team has established a strict deadline for all Mainnet node operators, requiring them to complete downloading and updating to the latest software release by Oct. 13 prior to the official network activation.
The Protocol 28 rollout was announced shortly after developers completed the installation of Protocol 27 on Mainnet on Sept. 26. As a testing measure to prevent technical glitches, Protocol 28 is currently activated and fully operational on the Pi Network Testnet.
This upgrade represents more than routine operational maintenance, introducing fundamental architectural changes that alter how applications process data queues.
Architectural Overhaul and Smart Contract Efficiency
The Protocol 28 upgrade introduces a revised architectural approach to tackle transaction data latency issues. The system modification allows developers to update batches of smart contracts simultaneously. This bulk update feature is designed to reduce latency for decentralized applications, especially when developers need to safely modify stored data structures as projects scale.
Selling Pressure in the Open Market
Milestones in technical infrastructure readiness have yet to ignite buying interest on open exchanges. The PI cryptocurrency remains stagnant, hovering around the $0.089 level. Market prices show no sign of bullish momentum capable of breaching the psychological resistance barrier at $0.10.
Technical trading indicators confirm the lack of buying momentum. PI’s Relative Strength Index (RSI) currently stands at 47.99, just below the neutral 50 threshold. Meanwhile, the Aroon Oscillator reads at -14.29, signaling that selling pressure continues to weigh on PI price movements.
The mid-month Protocol 28 activation marks a crucial test for the reliability of Pi Network’s new infrastructure. Once the Oct. 13 node update deadline closes, the market will reveal whether these developer upgrades can revive the trend, or if PI will remain pinned below the ten-cent mark.
