Solana Foundation Rekrut Eks CISO Twitter untuk Perkuat Keamanan Jaringan

Solana Foundation Hires Former Twitter CISO to Bolster Network Security

The Solana Foundation has officially appointed Michael Coates as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), bringing in an executive who previously held senior security roles across top global tech companies. Coates shared the announcement himself via a post on X earlier this week, shortly after stepping into the role.

From Mozilla to Twitter, Now to Solana

Before entering the crypto industry, Coates served as Head of Security at Mozilla during the height of the browser wars, and later became the first CISO in Twitter’s history as the platform aggressively expanded its global reach. He also co-founded enterprise security startup Altitude Networks, which was later acquired by CoinList, bringing him closer to the digital asset space. Coates cited Solana’s transaction scale as one of his primary considerations for accepting the role - noting that the network now processes tens of billions of dollars in daily stablecoin volume, with daily transaction counts that he claims surpass most of the rest of the crypto industry combined. He also highlighted recent tokenization momentum on Solana, including the launch of tokenized SpaceX shares that coincided with the asset’s debut on Nasdaq.

AI-Era Cyber Threats in the Spotlight

In his new position, Coates stated he will focus on strengthening operational security, application security practices, and addressing the unique risks inherent to digital assets. He added that he will actively engage with regulators and standards bodies on cybersecurity policy discussions affecting the crypto industry - a topic he previously addressed during testimony before the US Congress this year. Describing the current threat landscape, Coates noted that cybercriminals remain highly motivated to steal digital assets, and the misuse of artificial intelligence is becoming a distinct concern - though he also emphasized that AI can bolster defensive capabilities when utilized effectively.

Growing Signs of Institutionalization

The appointment adds to an expanding list of seasoned executives from the tech and regulatory worlds transitioning into senior roles at crypto companies, amid deepening institutional participation across the sector. A similar pattern emerged last year when former US Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Christopher Giancarlo joined Swiss digital asset bank Sygnum as a senior policy advisor. If this trend continues, security and governance standards on major blockchain networks will likely increasingly resemble conventional financial institutions - no longer functioning as standalone tech projects.
