Ubisoft Menyerah Setelah 2 Tahun Eksperimen NFT - Ironinya Game Kripto Indie Justru Terbang 800%

Ubisoft Gives Up After 2 Years of NFT Experiments - The Irony is Indie Crypto Games Soar 800%

Ubisoft has officially thrown in the towel for Champions Tactics. The servers of the NFT game created by one of the world’s largest studios are announced to close soon, ending a two-year experiment in the realm of Web3 gaming.

The failure of this project adds to the long list of high-budget blockchain service closures. This shutdown aligns with a trend that has recently hit veteran players. DeFi Kingdoms, a major name in the previous era, just shut down their DFKChain. Even POAP or Proof of Attendance Protocol, which has operated distributing digital badges for more than five years, finally chose to close, even though the project was once partnered with institutions like Coinbase and Amex. The demise of these products shows how fragile Web3 products are when they misread the market.

Irony on the Leaderboards

But the death of AAA studio projects does not mean the death of this industry. While Ubisoft gives up and begins closing its servers, PlayToEarn data records a surge of up to 800% among independent crypto games.

The top five rankings for August are now dominated by names outside the mainstream. ChainersGame, SuperTrip64, WoClaudecraft, PumpvilleWorld, and ShardLegends take turns occupying the top positions. One of these titles even jumped straight from the 80s rank, breaking through the leaderboard dominance without needing a multi-million dollar marketing campaign budget.

In the past 24 hours, the surge in P2E metrics has been fully dominated by independent projects. The game @the_phantom_g surged 725%, then @ArenaKof rose 720%, followed by @CyberArena_NFT with a 654% increase, and @XterioGames at 573%. This record proves that players’ money and time are not leaving Web3, they are simply shifting their attention to new projects.

Shifting to Community Roots

This difference in fortunes highlights a shift in GameFi market preferences. The crypto gaming ecosystem is now moving away from slow-moving large studio projects towards agile indie developers driven directly by their community initiatives. Players emphasize that they value speed of adaptation and direct engagement much more than just a brand name.

The appeal of community-driven mechanics is also evident in the Enjin ecosystem. The new season of ENJ Excavators, named ‘Kepithor’, has just begun by implementing competitive rules: resetting all players’ mining assets back to zero. A complete overhaul like this is effective in restoring competitive dynamics as it forces everyone to start from the same line. Such risky moves are difficult for conventional studios bound by long-term corporate targets to implement.

Mainstream corporations must slowly learn to read the true nature of this industry. Bringing a big name and a decades-long portfolio has proven futile if the development model does not follow the dynamics of crypto players who demand fast-paced movement. Reported from @PlayToEarn on X.
