Pemerintah AS Geser 12.267 Bitcoin Sitaan Bitfinex ke Dompet Baru - Picu Waspada Pasar Meski Tanpa Tanda Jual Langsung

US Government Moves 12,267 Bitfinex-Seized Bitcoin to New Wallet - Sparks Market Caution Despite No Direct Sell Signals

The United States government moved another 12,267 Bitcoin (BTC) worth $1.01 billion to a new, unidentified wallet on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) controls the crypto assets, which were seized from the 2016 Bitfinex exchange hack.

On-chain analytics platforms Lookonchain and WatcherGuru detected the transfer across the blockchain network. According to transaction records they uncovered, the receiving wallet had no prior activity history. They emphasized that the US government’s action shows no initial signs of an exchange deposit for immediate open-market selling.

Two Consecutive Transfers in a Week

The transfer of over ten thousand Bitcoin on October 8 was not an isolated event. Just days earlier, the US government transferred 9,261 BTC worth $770 million to Coinbase Prime. The institutional custody platform provides storage solutions for large-scale entities without immediately routing assets onto retail exchange order books.

Together, the two moves bring the total seized Bitcoin shifted by the government to over $1.77 billion in just seven days. These back-to-back asset transfers have sparked market concerns over potential liquidations that could weigh on Bitcoin prices.

Awaiting the New Wallet’s Purpose

Market anxiety stems from the sheer volume of BTC held by the Department of Justice from the Bitfinex case, which could burden market supply if dumped onto exchanges all at once. Even so, the lack of follow-up transfers to public exchange hot wallets after arriving at the unidentified address suggests the government is applying a specialized handling strategy for these billion-dollar funds.

For now, on-chain transaction records serve as the public’s only guidance, as law enforcement has yet to issue an official statement regarding the ultimate destination of the Bitfinex-seized assets. For market participants, government wallet movements worth hundreds of millions of dollars remain an important data point to monitor - without being a reason to panic.
