A quiet shift is underway in the wallets of major crypto players: they are hunting for gold once again. According to on-chain tracker lookonchain, whales have started accumulating tokenized gold - and the movements are substantial enough to catch the attention of an uncertain market.
One of the main drivers is Abraxas Capital, which withdrew 3,931 XAUT - worth approximately $15.97 million or around Rp255 billion - from an exchange just 12 hours ago. XAUT itself is a token representing physical gold, acting as a bridge between classic precious metals and modern blockchain rails.
The Resurgence of an Old Whale
Even more intriguing is the awakening of a long-dormant wallet. A whale at address 0xD20E, following a three-year hiatus, was recorded buying XAUT once again - withdrawing 953 tokens (around $3.93 million or roughly Rp63 billion) from Binance over the past three days. For on-chain observers, a wallet suddenly reactivating after years of silence often signals that experienced players see something worth betting on again.
Digital Gold as a Safe Haven Amid the Fog
A rotation into gold is frequently seen as a defensive move - a flight toward assets perceived as safer when uncertainty clouds risk-on markets. With tokenized gold, whales can hold precious metals exposure without leaving the crypto ecosystem, moving funds as fast as any regular on-chain transaction.
To be clear, the moves of one or two whales do not offer a guaranteed forecast of market direction; large wallets can be wrong, and exchange withdrawals do not always mean a massive selloff is imminent. Yet when experienced capital quietly rotates into gold after years of absence, it is at least a whisper worth listening to - offering insight into how the market’s strongest hands are reading the road ahead.
