Dituntut Serahkan Domain, Unicoin Balik Gugat Uniswap Labs - Minta Pengadilan Batalkan Merek UNI

Demanded to Surrender Domains, Unicoin Countersues Uniswap Labs - Requests Court to Cancel ‘UNI’ Trademark

A trademark dispute between two crypto entities has officially landed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). TransparentBusiness Inc., the development company behind the Unicoin project, has filed a lawsuit against Universal Navigation Inc., the parent entity operating Uniswap Labs.

The legal action directly targets Uniswap’s intellectual property assets. In its court filing, Unicoin asked the U.S. federal court to cancel the registration of the “UNI” trademark held by Uniswap Labs. The move comes just weeks before Unicoin’s public launch of its UNCN token, scheduled for September 28.

Demands to Surrender Domains

Unicoin’s lawsuit comes in response to mounting pressure over the past three months. Before the dispute reached the court, Uniswap’s legal team had sent three consecutive cease-and-desist letters, dated June 3, July 17, and August 14, 2026.

In those warning letters, Uniswap accused Unicoin of trademark infringement, trademark dilution, cybersquatting, and unfair competition within the crypto industry. Based on these allegations, Uniswap issued a series of demands for damages to its competitor.

They urged Unicoin to immediately cease using all derivative trademarks containing the word “UNI”. Uniswap also demanded the handover of two primary domains owned by the developer, namely unicoin.com and unicoin.org. These demands were accompanied by requests for Unicoin to disclose its revenue and operating profit reports, as well as reimburse all legal fees incurred by Uniswap.

Clarity on Trademark Status

Faced with ongoing legal pressure, TransparentBusiness Inc. took the battle to court. In addition to requesting the federal cancellation of the “UNI” trademark, they urged the judge to issue a declaratory judgment that the UNICOIN trademark does not infringe upon Uniswap Labs’ intellectual property rights.

Unicoin asked the court to confirm that its product names do not dilute or infringe on the UNI, UNISWAP, and UNICHAIN trademarks held by Uniswap. The case involves the dominant platform in the decentralized exchange (DEX) sector. According to DeFiLlama data at the time of the filing, the Uniswap protocol led global DEX volume with 24-hour transactions exceeding $3.9 billion. The fight to protect market dominance must now proceed alongside the trademark dispute in a New York courtroom.
