Ethereum was trading around $1,922 on July 30, 2026. A 0.6% daily gain was not enough to push the second-largest cryptocurrency past the $2,000 mark. Ethereum’s recovery from its June low of $1,530 now faces immediate resistance around $1,938. This area previously served as crucial support throughout February and March, causing upward momentum to weaken as price approaches supply levels.
Technical indicators reflect buyer hesitation. The daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits at 58, above neutral territory but still shy of overbought levels. While the MACD line remains positive, the gap continues to narrow with the histogram slipping slightly below zero. Further confirmation comes from the Chaikin Money Flow metric recording minus 0.05, signaling that capital inflows have yet to back the bullish price structure.
Macroeconomic Sentiment Poses Headwinds
Price action was held back by global macroeconomic and geopolitical headwinds. The US Federal Reserve kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged in the 3.5% to 3.75% range. However, the decision carried hawkish signals after three FOMC members voted in favor of a 25-basis-point rate hike. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh also reiterated the central bank’s commitment to bringing inflation down to its 2% target.
Geopolitical tensions added further pressure on risk assets. Brent crude jumped more than 7% following renewed conflict between the United States and Iran. These concerns quickly spilled over into traditional equity markets, with the Dow falling 2.2%, the S&P 500 dropping 1.5%, and the Nasdaq sliding 1.7%. The crypto market’s cautious mood was reflected in the Fear & Greed Index, which remained pinned in fear territory as of July 30, 2026.
Institutional Capital Flows Turn Negative
Institutional support has also softened. Data from SoSoValue shows that US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded net outflows of $18.65 million on July 29, 2026. The capital withdrawal abruptly reversed the inflow trend seen in the previous trading session.
On the regulatory front, the US Senate delayed progress on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. Lawmakers prioritized a Russian sanctions package and a series of federal nominations instead. This political delay reduces the likelihood of legislative advancements for the crypto industry ahead of the Senate’s August recess.
Waiting for New Economic Catalysts
Despite these headwinds, several technical analysts still see upside potential. Analyst Michaël van de Poppe noted that as long as Ethereum holds above its 21-day and 50-day moving averages, higher prices are likely ahead. Analyst Ted Pillows also marked a primary support zone between $1,850 and $1,870, projecting that the next major move will be upward.
Market participants are now turning their attention to upcoming US macroeconomic data. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reports are poised to serve as key catalysts that will dictate the next direction for digital asset capital flows.
