Penjaga Bitcoin $1 Triliun Tertahan Guardrail - 40 Perusahaan Kripto Surati Raksasa AI

Guardians of $1 Trillion Bitcoin Blocked by Guardrails - 40 Crypto Firms Write to AI Giants

More than 40 Bitcoin and crypto companies sent an open letter to the largest artificial intelligence laboratories, including Anthropic and OpenAI, dated August 10, 2026. The letter carries one specific demand: asking AI creators to allow independent security researchers to use their most powerful AI models before they are released to the public.

The Bitcoin network currently secures asset value of over $1 trillion. However, the maintainers tasked with protecting this open-source financial infrastructure do not have access to special research programs from AI labs. When they attempt to use public AI models to scan for legitimate security vulnerabilities, guardrail systems immediately halt the process. A feature originally designed to make AI models safe for the public has instead turned into an obstacle for those protecting trillion-dollar assets.

This situation forces network defenders to switch to using open-weight models that they can run themselves. The problem is that these self-hosted models lag one step behind the frontier models owned by major labs. The consequence is clear: Bitcoin’s line of defense also lags one step behind hackers who are quicker to exploit new tools.

More Than Just a Funding Issue

This access issue cannot be resolved simply by throwing money at it. At the end of July, the Bitcoin Security Consortium, which includes giant institutions such as BlackRock, Coinbase, Strategy, Anchorage, ARK, Block, Blockstream, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Galaxy, committed $15 million in funding for the long-term security of the Bitcoin network.

This open letter to AI labs highlights a different technical gap. Researchers are not asking for financial funding to face future threats, but rather direct access to today’s AI models to patch vulnerabilities emerging now. This operational need is summarized in their urge: “We therefore ask frontier AI labs to establish or expand standing trusted-access programs for qualified defenders of open-source financial infrastructure.”

The Risk of One-Sided Weaponry

This defensive tool gap is increasingly worrying, given that AI has already begun to be used for hacking. Anthropic itself previously demonstrated how their models could support “vibe hacking” tactics - a scenario where bad actors launch Bitcoin ransomware attacks directly with AI guidance.

To date, major AI labs have not responded to these demands. Without a trusted access program for security teams, the crypto industry must prepare for an unbalanced arms race. Hackers continue to seek vulnerabilities by leveraging the smartest AI on the market, while researchers defending the network are held at the door by the tool’s own censorship rules.
