Four days after a security incident forced the suspension of customer fund access, Bitget has officially released a timeline for resuming withdrawal services. The exchange’s technical team stated that they have identified the root cause and patched the vulnerability in their system. Following these infrastructure fixes, withdrawal access will begin to be restored on September 28, 2026, through a phased rollout.
Priority for Three Major Assets
The initial recovery phase is dedicated to Bitcoin (BTC). Withdrawal channels on the Bitcoin network are scheduled to resume on September 28 at 08:00 UTC. The process will continue a day later on September 29 at 08:00 UTC for Ether (ETH) withdrawals. ETH distribution access will immediately open across five different networks: Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Arbitrum, Base, and Optimism.
The focus will then shift to the USDT stablecoin on September 30 at 08:00 UTC. USDT withdrawals will resume operations across four networks: Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Solana, and Tron. This phased series will culminate on October 2 at 08:00 UTC. By this deadline, withdrawal systems for all remaining tokens, fiat currency operational services, and peer-to-peer (P2P) transaction execution are scheduled to be fully operational.
Internal Wallet Manipulation
Bitget management assured that user account balances remain intact and untouched in the September 24 hack incident. Investigative findings indicate that attackers purely targeted the exchange’s internal wallet infrastructure. The perpetrator exploited a vulnerability to manipulate behind-the-scenes operational transfer flows without breaching retail customer wallet areas. The isolation of this attack area is why new deposit inflows and platform trading activities continued to function normally during the withdrawal suspension period.
Post-incident system cleanup and auditing efforts are supported by external parties. Bitget handed over further investigations to Mandiant, the cybersecurity division under Google, alongside blockchain security audit firm SlowMist. The phased rollout starting from the largest assets now serves as a benchmark for the exchange to test the reliability of the new patch in their defense system. Reported by crypto.news.
