Proposal Shielded Bitcoin Tawarkan Privasi Zcash Tanpa Soft Fork - Tapi Pengguna Pertama Bakal Sembunyi Sendirian

Shielded Bitcoin Proposal Offers Zcash Privacy Without a Soft Fork - But First Users Will Be Hiding Alone

Cryptography firm Alloc Init published a research draft titled ‘Shielded Bitcoin’ on September 25, 2026, promising a new privacy layer for the world’s largest crypto asset. Its three researchers - Clara Shikhelman, Mikhail Komarov, and Aleksei Moskvin - outlined a method for market participants to conceal transaction amounts, sender identities, and recipient addresses in a single round of transactions. The proposal designs a scheme to obscure links to previously spent funds, all running without requiring the Bitcoin network to undergo a soft fork upgrade at all.

The key to this proposal is borrowing elements of Zcash’s architecture and separating the recording task from the proving task.

Moving the Verification Burden Off-Chain

The three researchers adopted Zcash privacy instruments such as encrypted notes, public nullifiers, and zero-knowledge proofs, while eliminating the need for an independent blockchain or consensus mechanism. In this design, the Bitcoin blockchain serves only as a neutral ordering and public data publication layer. The remaining verification work is shifted to separate software entities called indexers.

Indexers operators take over the task of verifying every zero-knowledge proof submitted by network users. Indexers examine transaction history to prevent double-spending attempts on the same coins, then reconstruct the overall state of the shielded system. Because this validation process occurs outside the main consensus layer, Bitcoin miners do not need to modify their software or process new cryptographic proofs.

The Risk of Hiding Alone on Day One

The lack of system overhaul hurdles has not stopped criticism from the developer community regarding the metaprotocol’s effectiveness at launch. Developer Vadim Zavodil shared his arguments on the X platform regarding the fundamental flaw of this new system. Zavodil highlighted that the Shielded Bitcoin architecture would begin operating with an anonymity set starting from zero.

The Zcash network, in contrast, has accumulated a pool of shielded funds through years of user participation. In cryptography, transaction privacy heavily depends on the size of the surrounding crowd of data to blend into. “Privacy is a function of the crowd. A brand new metaprotocol starts at zero,” wrote Zavodil, concluding that early users of Shielded Bitcoin would in practice only be hiding their tracks in a crowd of one.

This research design opens a pathway to enhancing Bitcoin’s privacy without requiring miner approval for a soft fork. As long as this proposal remains at the research stage and lacks an initial user base, participants seeking transaction confidentiality will need to look elsewhere in ecosystems with established privacy pools.
