Solana Mendarat di Bursa XRP Ledger - Sayangnya Simbol 'SOL' Tak Lagi Cukup Jadi Jaminan

Solana Lands on XRP Ledger Exchange - Unfortunately, the ‘SOL’ Symbol is No Longer Enough of a Guarantee

Solana has finally landed on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) native decentralized exchange. Users can now trade wrapped SOL assets issued through the Axelar network without having to leave their ecosystem of choice.

Axelar confirmed this availability via a post on August 14, directing users straight to the SOL/XRP trading pair on the XPMarket platform. Aside from the XPMarket interface, traders can also access this representation of SOL through several other interfaces in the XRPL ecosystem, including First Ledger, Magnetic, and the Xaman wallet.

On-chain data immediately recorded this movement. XRPScan tracker identified the address rfmS3zqrQrka8wVyhXifEeyTwe8AMz2Yhw as the Axelar Bridge account. The account has recorded SOL transactions since August 14, including OfferCreate-type activity in the order book. Another network explorer, Bithomp, also associated the same account with the axelar.foundation entity, while XRPScan labeled the account as Axelar Bridge.

This integration is built on the foundation of the Solana mainnet connection previously opened by Axelar on June 3. The connection enables cross-chain messaging that links Solana with more than 70 other ecosystems. This cross-network expansion follows an ongoing trend - previously, the reverse movement occurred when wrapped XRP entered the Solana ecosystem through intermediaries Hex Trust and LayerZero.

Why Just Checking the Ticker is Not Enough

Despite unlocking new liquidity, Solana’s arrival on XRPL is accompanied by technical warnings. Hussein Zangana, a community figure known as Vet, emphasized that Axelar is currently the only legitimate issuer of the wrapped SOL asset in the XRPL ecosystem.

This warning is crucial because the rules of the game for asset identification on XRPL are different. On this network, tokens are identified based on a combination of two mandatory elements: the issuer and the currency code. It is not enough for users to just see the “SOL” ticker on the trading screen. This characteristic provides a loophole for bad actors to mint fake tokens named “SOL,” trapping users who neglect to check the details of the issuer’s address.

Inherent Risks of Crypto Bridges

Beyond the token identification issue within the network, the infrastructure supporting the movement of assets between blockchains still carries risks. Cross-chain bridges have a dark history regarding security vulnerabilities. This sector is recorded to have suffered losses of up to billions of dollars due to hacker exploits in the past.

The trading path is now shorter for Solana and XRP users. However, this ease of access demands new discipline from retail users - verifying the token issuer’s identity is now an absolute necessity before executing asset swaps.
