Six wallets from Bitcoin’s early era suddenly awoke from a long slumber and moved 553.59 BTC worth $40.15 million between August 16 and 26, 2026. Galaxy Research data confirmed that the addresses, dormant since 2011, 2012, and 2014, reinforce a new trend this year: coins older than ten years are moving far more actively than in previous periods.
Uncovering the Reasons Behind the Migration
Some of the ancient wallets that suddenly came to life carry a specific tracking tag, “Salomon Client Dusted.” That label ties them to the “Noah Doe” court case in New York, a lawsuit seeking to declare roughly 39,069 dormant wallet addresses as abandoned property. Wallets named in the court filings began moving their coins after a judge stayed the legal proceedings last June.
Legal threats are not the only catalyst behind the migration of legacy assets. Around 233,000 BTC has also been recorded flowing out of various long-term storage wallets. The emergency transfers were carried out by owners evacuating their funds to safer setups following reports of an exploit targeting Coldcard hardware wallet devices.
Movements of early-era coins remain a rare sight. Very few first-generation Bitcoin holders still retain control over their private keys today. Fund flow analysis indicates that the majority of coins from the awakened legacy wallets were not dumped onto the open market, but rather routed into professional infrastructure services.
Squeezed by Hawkish Fed Signals
This asset reallocation by ancient wallets comes right as market conditions are under pressure. The price of Bitcoin dropped to touch $76,877 following Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s speech at the Jackson Hole symposium. Hawkish remarks warning that inflation has not cooled sufficiently sent shockwaves through global market sentiment.
Macroeconomic conditions responded swiftly to the warning. The probability of an interest rate hike in September rose to 56%. According to the CME FedWatch tool, the odds jumped sharply from 35% in just a single day.
The series of ancient coin transfers amid pressured market sentiment highlights a clear reality. When legal forfeiture threats attempt to claim dormant assets and security vulnerabilities loom over storage solutions, early adopters do not hesitate to take action to protect the coins they have held for over a decade.
