Circle Tempel Logo USDC di Jersey Depan Chelsea - Tiga Bulan Setelah Peringatan Hukum dari FCA

Circle Puts USDC Logo on Front of Chelsea Shirt - Three Months After FCA Legal Warning

Circle, the issuer of the dollar-pegged cryptocurrency, has officially signed on as a sponsor of Chelsea Football Club for the 2026/2027 season. The new deal ensures the company’s logo and USDC stablecoin branding will appear on the front of players’ shirts. The announcement on Friday, August 28, 2026, coincided with scrutiny from UK financial regulators regarding the influx of crypto sponsorships in football.

The agreement was finalized roughly three months after the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) sent warning letters to Premier League clubs, potentially including Chelsea. The FCA flagged unauthorized firms - including crypto businesses - leveraging sports sponsorships to target fans, warning that such direct marketing efforts could violate UK financial services laws.

Authorized Entity, Locally Unregulated Product

In terms of corporate standing, Circle UK Trading Limited has been registered and authorized by the FCA since 2018 to provide certain financial services in the UK.

However, the USDC stablecoin featured on Chelsea’s kit falls under a different legal framework. Circle acknowledged that its primary product is neither issued nor regulated under UK law. While transactions using stablecoins like USDC remain legal for local residents, the FCA’s comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto assets will not take effect until October 2027.

A Unique Position Awaiting New Regulations

This regulatory gap leaves the company in a unique spot: Circle is fully authorized to operate as a UK corporate entity, while its USDC product operates outside the domestic regulatory perimeter.

The FCA declined to comment on Chelsea’s new sponsorship deal, and Circle did not respond to Cointelegraph’s request for comment before publication. Chelsea management’s decision to partner with the USDC issuer highlights how Premier League clubs are prioritizing immediate sponsorship revenues over waiting for final regulatory regimes set to roll out next year.
