American Bitcoin Posts $126M Profit - Core Mining Operations Suffer $5.5M Loss

American Bitcoin (ABTC), the Eric Trump-backed crypto miner, reported a quarterly net profit of $126 million in its latest earnings report. However, the profit was entirely driven by the revaluation of Bitcoin holdings on the company’s balance sheet. Without those accounting paper gains from crypto assets, core mining operations actually recorded a loss of roughly $5.5 million.

The company’s quarterly performance was also weighed down by a separate loss on derivative instruments totaling $64.3 million. Even so, American Bitcoin’s earnings per share (EPS) came in at $1.73, beating market analyst consensus expectations of $0.26.

Cost Pressures at Mining Facilities

The operational downturn was directly evident in coin production. During the quarter, American Bitcoin mined 891 BTC, down from 932 BTC in the previous quarter. This production drop stemmed from seasonal electricity tariff increases across the company’s operational facilities.

Gross profit from mining operations shrank to $25.8 million compared to $33 million in the prior quarter. The reduced gross profit pulled mining gross margins down from 49% to 41%.

Responding to rising energy costs, American Bitcoin CEO Mike Ho maintained that the firm continues to mine Bitcoin at a structural discount to spot market prices. Management’s remarks highlight the company’s decision to continue self-mining despite mounting energy expenses.

Stock Drops After Revenue Miss

In market trading, ABTC shares closed down roughly 15% at $5.31. The stock decline coincided with a 5% drop in Bitcoin’s spot price over a 24-hour period to around $76,119.

American Bitcoin’s quarterly revenue of $63.4 million also fell nearly 15% short of the Yahoo Finance analyst consensus estimate of $74.35 million.

Despite the contraction in revenue and mining margins, the company’s Bitcoin treasury continued to expand. American Bitcoin’s total reserves reached 8,427 BTC by the end of September 2026, marking a significant rise from the 3,418 BTC held during the same period a year earlier.

Pure Mining Model Faces AI Competition

American Bitcoin’s expansion strategy, which remains fully committed to coin mining, presents a clear contrast to moves made by its major competitors. Sector peers such as Riot Platforms, MARA Holdings, and Core Scientific have been aggressively building artificial intelligence (AI) data centers to diversify revenue streams.

David Gamble of Enigma Holdings noted that the pure-play mining model faces long-term sustainability hurdles as network mining difficulty continues to climb.

For capital market investors, American Bitcoin’s approach serves as a test for the viability of the pure-play mining model: whether accumulating coin reserves can offset high electricity tariffs and rising network difficulty, or if peers’ diversification into AI compute will prove more resilient.
