Dua Kali Ganti Kemudi di 2026 - Farcaster Cari Operator Baru di Tengah Merosotnya Pendapatan

Changing Helm Twice in 2026 - Farcaster Seeks New Operator Amid Declining Revenue

Neynar is once again looking for a new team to operate the Farcaster network, the Clanker launch platform, and their developer platform. This announcement was shared directly by Neynar co-founder Rish Maheshwari on social media platform X on August 17, 2026. The move comes less than seven months after Neynar took over Farcaster from its creators, Merkle Manufactory, which was founded by Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan, on January 21.

The search for a new operator marks Farcaster’s second leadership change in 2026. Romero and Srinivasan had previously decided to step down from daily operations when Neynar took over earlier this year. Behind this rapid leadership change, data shows that Farcaster’s gross protocol revenue has continued to decline sharply since the first quarter of 2026.

What Remains Unclear About This Transition

To date, Neynar has not disclosed any potential candidate names or the deadline for interested parties to submit proposals. They have also not confirmed whether this transition will take the form of a full sale, a transfer of control, or another deal structure. Initially, Neynar had committed to fully maintaining the protocol, running the main application, and managing Clanker. Their acquisition package at the time included protocol contracts, code repositories, and developer operations.

Although the transition process is underway, no service shutdown date has been announced for Farcaster, Clanker, or Neynar’s developer services. Major investors behind the Farcaster ecosystem, which include prominent names like Paradigm and a16z crypto, have so far not made any public comments regarding the search for a new operator.

The Fate of Clanker and User Data Assurance

Clanker’s position is crucial in this transition process. As a token launch platform built on the Base network, Clanker has reportedly generated over $50 million in cumulative protocol fees since late 2024. The platform has even established its own ecosystem fund, allocating $8 million to buy back 14% of its token supply. Therefore, the incoming new operator will be required to immediately clarify their control over the Clanker treasury, in addition to securing ownership of the protocol contracts, repositories, and application data.

Meanwhile, the exact user base of the protocol remains a subject of debate. In December 2025, Romero reported that Farcaster had 250.000 monthly active users and more than 100.000 funded wallets, but these internal numbers were never independently audited. For users and developers still building within the ecosystem, the biggest challenge is no longer about who the founder or new owner is. The main question is which entity will hold the keys to their contracts, data, and assets in the coming months. Reported by crypto.news.
