Operator Ponzi Kripto $165 Juta Ditangkap Usai Buron Setahun - Batal Datang ke Pernikahan Anak Karena Takut FBI

$165 Million Crypto Ponzi Operator Arrested After a Year on the Run - Missed Child’s Wedding Due to FBI Fear

Edward Zimbardi, a 59-year-old man from Flowery Branch, Georgia, landed back in the United States on August 14, 2026, after being deported by the Fijian government. This forced return ends a long flight for Zimbardi, who is accused of masterminding “The Crypto Program,” an investment scheme that drained more than $165 million from thousands of investors between June 2022 and August 2023.

On paper, Zimbardi offered crypto digital advertising packages to his victims, promising a monthly return of 25%. Prosecutors state that the promised advertising packages were never actually purchased. Instead, funds from new investors were used solely to pay returns to existing investors - a textbook Ponzi scheme tactic. Of all customer deposits flowing into crypto wallets under his control, Zimbardi transferred over $34 million to high-risk foreign exchange trading markets, which resulted in massive losses.

A portion of the customer funds was also withdrawn to finance his luxury lifestyle. Court documents note that he spent at least $10 million on personal expenses. The funds were used to settle alimony payments, purchase various luxury vehicles, and even buy a house for his child. This patchwork scheme collapsed entirely in August 2023, forcing Zimbardi to flee through Hawaii, Fiji, and several other locations.

Premonition on Child’s Wedding Day

Zimbardi chose to hide in Fiji starting in July 2025 after receiving information that the FBI had begun investigating his case. His flight in the island nation lasted for more than a year. In May 2026, Zimbardi canceled plans to return to Virginia to attend his own child’s wedding. The sudden decision was made because he suspected federal agents were already waiting for him at the venue - a suspicion later confirmed to be true by authorities.

Restitution Portal for Victims

The end of Zimbardi’s run brings his case straight to court. Following an indictment returned by a federal grand jury on July 8, 2026, he now faces 25 federal charges at once. The charges include 12 counts of wire fraud, 12 counts of money laundering, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. The prosecution of this case is fully supported by the SEC, CFTC, the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, and the Georgia Secretary of State.

The focus of authorities has now shifted to tracking the victims’ money. The FBI has opened a dedicated online portal requesting “The Crypto Program” investors to submit their transaction details for restitution purposes. This case serves as a practical reminder for the public: when someone asks for your capital with a promise of 25% returns per month, that is where your money is actually at risk.
