Six executives from crypto companies and prediction markets are scheduled to gather at the White House on August 19, 2026. The confirmed list of attendees includes top officials from Coinbase, Ripple, a16z, Chainlink, Paradigm, and Kalshi.
President Trump is reportedly attending alongside members of his administration, though this news has not yet received official confirmation. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig and SEC Chairman Paul Atkins are also expected to join. As of writing, no official agenda has been published to the public. However, this meeting is held as a warm-up for the inaugural meeting of the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee, which will be held the following day, August 20, in a three-hour session starting at 1:00 PM local time in Washington.
What is Being Brought to the Table
This meeting comes as the industry awaits legal clarity. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse are primary supporters of the CLARITY Act, a draft bill currently frozen in the Senate. This new regulation is designed to place the digital commodity spot market under CFTC oversight, while assets categorized as securities remain regulated by the SEC. The bill will also regulate digital asset exchanges, brokers, dealers, advisers, and custodians.
On August 7, Armstrong reaffirmed his stance by stating that crypto technology momentum continues to grow, regardless of whether there is a congressional schedule. This pressure is nothing new. Since April 2026, a coalition of more than 120 companies, including Coinbase and Ripple, has been pushing for the bill’s passage.
Why is This Regulation Stalled?
The US House of Representatives actually approved their version in July 2025 by a 294-134 vote, with 78 Democrats crossing party lines to join the Republicans. The Senate Banking Committee also advanced the bill with a 15-9 vote in May 2026.
The obstacle lies in a series of unresolved issues. Policymakers are still debating ethics provisions, stablecoin yield rules, protections for software developers, illicit finance controls, and consumer protection standards. This series of debates has left market participants doubtful. Data from Polymarket gives only a 19% probability that the CLARITY Act will be passed into law in 2026. Estimates from Galaxy Research peg the chances even lower at 10%.
A Narrowing Deadline
The sub-20% chance highlights the weight of the challenges crypto executives are bringing to Washington. The August 19 meeting carries a heavier burden than a routine visit. For the executives in attendance, the goal is clear: use the meeting to lobby for faster rule-making, or let the status of US crypto regulation hang in limbo again until the end of the year.
