Ubisoft Tutup Game NFT Champions Tactics Oktober Nanti - Ironisnya Proyek Indie Kripto Malah Melesat 800%

Ubisoft to Shut Down NFT Game Champions Tactics in October - Ironically, Indie Crypto Projects Soar 800%

The Web3 experiment of one of the world’s largest gaming companies has officially reached its end. Ubisoft is confirmed to be shutting down the game service of Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles in October 2026. Information regarding the operational halt of this tactical RPG game was confirmed by several reports, including from Gamereactor UK and tbreak.com on August 3, 2026.

Champions Tactics was initially designed as Ubisoft’s ambition to bridge traditional gameplay mechanics with decentralized technology. The game uses an NFT system as assets for in-game character ownership. Each tactical figure used by players is built directly on blockchain infrastructure, promising full ownership of digital assets to its players.

The news of this closure adds to the long list of crypto projects led by established tech industry names that have backed down.

Exodus of Well-Funded Entities

Ubisoft’s step aligns with the downsizing trend of various other entities in the crypto sector. Shortly before this announcement, the NFT marketplace Magic Eden also took a drastic step by shutting down its trading services for the Ethereum and Bitcoin networks.

A similar pattern has hit the play-to-earn sector. DeFi Kingdoms, one of the early pioneers of the decentralized financial gaming era, has scheduled the shutdown of DFKChain operations on August 28. This series of shutdowns reinforces one thing: large capital from major studios does not automatically guarantee success in the dynamic crypto market.

Growth Anomaly in Small Projects

The interesting side of this closure trend is the contrast emerging at the other end of the ecosystem. The retreat of major studios is instead accompanied by growth in the independent developer sector. Data shows that crypto gaming activity in the indie category has jumped by up to 772%.

A report from the analytical tracker @PlayToEarn reinforces this shift in direction. Independent titles such as KittyKartRacing, goga_app, and DarkMachineGame have suddenly entered the spotlight. These three games recorded increases in their P2E Score exceeding +800% in a span of just 24 hours. These participation figures suggest that player interest has not evaporated, but rather shifted elsewhere.

A Shifting Niche Market

The dynamics unfolding throughout 2026 depict a shift in player consumption patterns. Projects with heavy production models and long bureaucratic chains typical of major studios seem to be running out of steam to maintain their user base. On the other hand, small-scale indie projects have proven capable of maneuvering quickly, finding new market niches, and nurturing their core communities. The Web3 gaming ecosystem is seemingly starting to shed its reliance on large corporate companies to hand the main stage to independent developers. Reported by Gamereactor UK.
