Senator Demokrat Bidik Kustodian Tether di AS - Tapi Target Politiknya Mengarah ke Keluarga Kabinet Trump

Democratic Senator Targets Tether’s US Custodian - But Political Crosshairs Aim at Trump Cabinet Family

A formal inquiry letter has landed from Washington on the desk of executive Brandon Lutnick. Senator Richard Blumenthal, the top Democrat on the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, has called on the Cantor Fitzgerald CEO to speak out. Blumenthal sent a formal request probing the intricacies of the firm’s financial partnership with Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin. The lucrative alliance has positioned Cantor to hold the lion’s share of Tether’s asset reserves domestically.

At the core of Blumenthal’s inquiry is how the firm enforces international legal boundaries. The senator asked Cantor Fitzgerald to detail all banking compliance procedures and sanctions enforcement protocols in place. The pressure responds to a series of allegations linking USDT circulation to Iranian shadow banking systems, as well as indications that the token has repeatedly been used to evade economic sanctions imposed on Russia.

In the same document, Blumenthal also dismissed the stablecoin issuer’s jurisdictional claims. While Tether operates and identifies its headquarters as being in El Salvador, the senator emphasized the legal standing of the assets backing the token. The vast majority of fiat reserves supporting USDT’s market capitalization reside squarely on US soil, held directly under Cantor’s custody.

Family Ties to the Trump Cabinet

The target of Blumenthal’s investigation connects directly to the current centers of executive power. Brandon Lutnick recently assumed the role of Cantor Fitzgerald CEO through a family handover. His father, Howard Lutnick, relinquished the company’s top post to his son after being officially sworn in as Commerce Secretary in President Donald Trump’s cabinet. The Senate committee’s move inevitably brings crypto sanctions compliance into friction with the immediate family of a sitting cabinet secretary.

Subpoena Arsenal Awaiting Election Results

Blumenthal’s inquiry comes at a critical juncture on the eve of shifts in the US political landscape. Prediction market odds show Democrats holding the upper hand in their bid to reclaim the Senate majority in the upcoming November election. Their projected chances of victory sit at 61% on prediction exchange Kalshi and 64% among traders on Polymarket.

A realignment of political power presents distinct risks for the digital asset industry. If Democrats win the Senate majority, lawmakers with a staunch track record of opposing crypto will assume key committee chairmanships. A chairperson’s gavel grants the authority to issue subpoenas - an unyielding legal instrument to compel witness testimony and seize internal company records. Blumenthal’s letter today may be just an opening salvo before Senate investigative machinery fully targets crypto financial flows post-election.
