A crypto market correction has pushed the leveraged trading position of investor and influencer Machi Big Brother close to liquidation, leaving him at risk of a forced closure on his bullish bet.
According to tracking data from @lookonchain on X, Machi holds a long position of 39,025 ETH with a notional value of $99.8 million. Leverage allows traders to borrow funds and amplify trading size beyond their initial capital. However, higher purchasing power demands equal caution, as potential losses grow in tandem with loan size when the market turns.
The decline in Ethereum’s spot price has directly pressured Machi’s portfolio, saddling him with mounting unrealized losses that continue to erode his collateral on the exchange.
The $2,501.38 Threshold
Every leveraged trading contract comes with an absolute loss tolerance set by the exchange. For Machi’s position, the final collateral limit sits at a price level of $2,501.38 per ETH. The liquidation price marks the point where an investor’s margin value drops so low that it can no longer cover losses from the borrowed position.
Once Ethereum touches $2,501.38, the exchange will automatically take control. The trading system will forcibly close his position and execute a sell order for all 39,025 ETH on the open market to settle the borrowed funds.
Market participants are closely watching Ethereum’s price action around that crucial level. The fate of a single portfolio now threatens to unleash immediate selling pressure that could weigh heavily on exchange order books.
Risk of a Cascading Selloff
With a bet nearing $100 million, what would typically be a private trade has become a concern for the broader Ethereum ecosystem. A forced liquidation worth tens of millions of dollars carries the potential to trigger a sharp domino effect of selling.
If the exchange offloads tens of thousands of ETH all at once, the spot market must find enough buyers to absorb the sudden supply shock. If buyer liquidity fails to match sell orders at targeted price levels, bid walls could be wiped out, pushing Ethereum prices even lower.
For other traders, a sudden price drop brings secondary risks. The liquidation pressure from Machi’s position could drag prices down close to the liquidation levels of other investors. Such a cascading sequence could spark a cycle of automated liquidations, driving Ethereum’s value into a continuous downward spiral.
A single price level now stands between the survival of a multi-million-dollar position and the arrival of fresh selling pressure. For everyday ETH holders, the move toward $2,501 highlights how vulnerable asset prices can be when faced with automated exchange liquidation engines.
