Ripple Gaet Bank Regional Pertama Korea - Tapi Aset Penyelesaiannya Justru Disembunyikan

Ripple Partners with Korea’s First Regional Bank - But Settlement Asset Remains Hidden

Ripple’s expansion footprint in East Asia is becoming clearer. On August 18, 2026, Ripple announced a partnership with Jeonbuk Bank - a financial institution under the umbrella of JB Financial Group based in North Jeolla Province. This agreement marks Jeonbuk as the first South Korean regional bank to adopt Ripple Payments for cross-border remittance business.

The new service promises international transaction settlement in seconds to minutes. Unlike traditional remittance systems, this infrastructure operates 24 hours a day without being bound by local bank operating hours. The targeted user base includes importers, exporters, tech startups, and online content creators who regularly handle international payments.

Jeonbuk Bank President Park Choon-won expressed high hopes for this system integration. He noted that the collaboration with Ripple will serve as a new growth engine for the bank’s future business continuity.

Third Time This Year

Jeonbuk Bank’s move extends the list of Ripple clients in South Korea. This is Ripple’s third partnership with a South Korean financial institution in 2026. Prior to this new agreement, Ripple had partnered with Kyobo Life Insurance to handle tokenized government bond settlements. Shortly after, Kbank also joined the network to develop institutional-grade wallet infrastructure.

Fiona Murray, Managing Director of Ripple Asia Pacific, stated that this series of agreements reflects the rising interest from Korean financial institutions. To date, the Ripple Payments service is active in more than 60 markets. The company claims that its total transaction volume has surpassed $100 billion since inception - a global aggregate figure, not data specific to Jeonbuk’s operations.

What We Don’t Know Yet

Despite offering rapid remittance settlement, this partnership announcement leaves the most crucial technical details hanging. Neither Ripple nor Jeonbuk Bank has specified what asset will be used to execute the final settlement of each transaction. The public does not yet know whether this partnership will route funds through the native XRP token, utilize the RLUSD stablecoin, or simply move fiat currency over their new infrastructure layer.

The silence does not stop there. Several operational details regarding specific payment corridors, supported currencies, initial target volumes, and the fee structure imposed on customers have also not been disclosed to the public.

Ripple’s expansion through regional banking indeed opens up real adoption channels to previously untouched areas. However, as long as the clarity regarding the settlement asset remains unanswered, its true value to the local crypto ecosystem remains merely a marketing narrative on paper.
