Sistem Tradisional Kunci $15 Miliar Agunan Bank - 77% Institusi Pindah ke Tokenisasi di 2026

Traditional Systems Lock Up $15 Billion in Bank Collateral - 77% of Institutions Moving to Tokenization by 2026

As many as 77% of financial institutions aim to adopt tokenized collateral by 2026 at the latest to break free from the bottlenecks of traditional financial infrastructure. This planned transition was detailed in a recent research report by Citi and The ValueExchange titled ‘Digital Collateral: A Practical Reality,’ published on September 24.

Currently, a single large financial institution carries an idle collateral burden reaching up to $15 billion. This capital is tied up by highly fragmented clearing systems and traditional market trading hours. These inefficiencies cause Tier 1 institutions to incur an estimated $346 million in lost annual income.

Why So Much Capital Sits Idle

On average, a systemically important financial institution must manage $74 billion in daily collateral scattered across roughly 65 separate custodian locations. Of that daily total, about 25% of the funds sit idle without generating yield, held purely as a safety buffer.

Traditional infrastructure repeatedly fails to move assets between locations in a timely manner whenever markets face sudden liquidity demands, forcing banks to lock up their own funds as a precaution. In response to this inefficiency, institutions are now preparing digital cash, money market funds, and government debt instruments for rapid tokenization. These new digital asset formats are being readied to settle institutional margin and financing requirements instantly.

Identical Findings Across Multiple Studies

A separate research report from Nasdaq and The ValueExchange identified a similar pattern of losses, noting that institutions hold an average of around $74 billion in collateral, with 25% sitting idle and failing to generate returns for its holders.

Banking institutions are now preparing to migrate operations onto blockchain networks to resolve liquidity bottlenecks and halt the annual $346 million revenue drain seen under legacy systems. Reported by crypto.news.
