US Secures 55% Share of 65 Billion Barrels of Venezuelan Oil - Impact Could Reach Bitcoin Price

The United States government has sealed a 100-year oil management rights deal with Venezuela. Structured as a public-private partnership, the agreement grants the US a 55% share of production output from a new joint venture that will control 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves.

US President Donald Trump hailed the deal as the largest oil transaction in world history. According to @WatcherGuru on X, Trump claimed the move would double America’s oil reserves. The agreement was negotiated directly by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth alongside Venezuelan Interim President Delcy Rodríguez and several private business representatives.

Under the terms of the agreement, the US is not acquiring the oil and gas assets with cash. Instead, it receives equity, a 55% effective production share, and special rights to purchase crude oil at cost. Direct oversight of the arrangement will be handled by the Pentagon’s Office of Strategic Capital.

Gas Price Pressures Behind Damaged Pipelines

Production plans focus on 17 strategic oil fields in the Orinoco Belt and Lake Maracaibo regions. Once established, the new joint venture will control the world’s second-largest oil reserves, trailing only Saudi Aramco. Crude oil purchased by the US will be earmarked for military needs and replenishing the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). The national reserve currently sits below 300 million barrels, having depleted by more than 100 million barrels since the start of 2026.

The partnership comes amid domestic pressure over energy prices ahead of the upcoming midterm elections in November. AAA data shows the average US gasoline price has reached $4.09 per gallon, up from $3.21 a year ago. For Venezuela, Rubio estimates the extraction project could attract around $100 billion in private investment, while Rodríguez projects potential tax revenues of $209 billion for her country.

The biggest challenge lies in field operational conditions. Venezuela’s oil infrastructure - spanning pipeline networks, export terminals, and refinery upgrading facilities - requires billions of dollars in repairs. Meeting production targets demands significant upfront capital in a region once deemed uninvestable by ExxonMobil leadership.

How Venezuelan Oil Affects Bitcoin

For digital asset markets, the availability of cheaper energy triggers a clear chain reaction. A sustained decline in global oil prices typically helps ease US inflation. The Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) report for July 2026 still recorded a monthly inflation increase of 0.2% and an annual rate of 3.7%.

If inflation cools as a result of lower energy prices, the Federal Reserve (The Fed) will have a stronger justification to begin cutting benchmark interest rates. Rate cuts ultimately unlock additional liquidity that flows into risk assets, including Bitcoin. Conversely, if high energy production costs continue to fuel inflation, tight liquidity conditions will keep weighing on the crypto market’s growth.

The timeline for field rehabilitation remains long. However, if the influx of barrels from the Orinoco ultimately cools American energy prices, Bitcoin holders could be among the beneficiaries reaping the rewards.
