A Trade button is now attached directly to every crypto and stock cashtag on Elon Musk’s social media platform X. The feature, newly rolled out to users in the United States, turns ticker symbols like $BTC or $TSLA into direct access points to integrated exchanges.
When users click on a cashtag, X’s system instantly displays a live price chart along with shortcuts redirecting them to order execution pages across partner platforms. Available exchange options include Coinbase, Kraken, and Gemini for cryptocurrency trading, as well as Interactive Brokers and Moomoo for conventional stock trading.
However, X does not act as a direct broker in this intermediary setup. The entire initial login process, new account registration, and final execution of buy and sell orders remain fully handled within the partner exchanges’ official platforms.
Bridging the Timeline and Markets
Mridul Singhai, product engineering lead at X, provided direct insight into the direction of their app update. Singhai stated that the cashtag integration serves to bridge the gap between timeline conversations about specific tickers and actual execution in real markets.
Prior to this feature, timeline discussions surrounding Bitcoin or stock trends were often disconnected from transaction routes. Users had to open separate third-party apps to enter buy or sell positions in financial markets, an extra step that delayed trade execution.
Leveraging 245 Million Users
This exchange access integration is directly supported by X’s broad audience reach. According to internal records, X logs around 132 million active daily engagements from mobile-only users.
That active user figure nearly doubles when looking at the broader picture. Combined across all device types, X records over 245 million global users. While the Trade button is currently restricted to the United States, such a massive daily engagement base offers partner exchanges fresh visibility.
The task for partner exchanges like Kraken and Coinbase now comes down to maximizing trade conversions. They will closely monitor whether timeline shortcuts effectively convert millions of active X users into new crypto buyers. Reported by CoinDesk.
