At least seven Blockworks research analysts resigned between October 19 and November 6, 2026. The wave of departures followed management’s decision to prioritize artificial intelligence (AI) product development at the crypto data firm.
The seven analysts who confirmed their departures on X are Jake Koch-Gallup, Nick Carpinito, Kunal Doshi, Silvio Busonero, Westie, Nikhil, and AJC. The move comes months after Blockworks completed its acquisition of crypto intelligence firm Messari on June 12, 2026, a corporate deal that unified analytics operations covering over 40,000 crypto assets.
Concerns Over the Loss of Independent Research
The departures have cast a spotlight on the evolving trajectory of the crypto research industry. Jake Koch-Gallup, a former Messari and Blockworks analyst, expressed his disappointment on X, raising concerns over seeing one of the leading crypto research firms shift its focus away from independent research to pursue product automation.
The new direction was confirmed by Westie, a pioneer in Blockworks’ research division who helped build and scale its data operations from the ground up. Westie stated that AI products have officially become the company’s primary focus for this year and beyond.
Another analyst confirming his departure was Nick Carpinito. Having joined in early 2025, Carpinito played a key role in overseeing the Messari acquisition and the rollout of the Token Transparency Framework, leading up to its adoption by the Bloomberg Terminal.
Shift Toward MCP Data Feeds and Bots
Blockworks’ emphasis on automation is evident across recent product launches over the past month. On October 1, 2026, the company rolled out an AI data service for API subscribers, allowing users and automated bots to query protocol revenue, stablecoin growth, token unlock schedules, and tokenized stock performance on decentralized exchanges.
That initiative was expanded to the public on November 3, 2026, coinciding with the analyst resignations. Blockworks opened access to its AI data via Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor, alongside a $100 starting credit for new users.
The simultaneous resignation of seven analysts highlights a clear structural shift within Blockworks. A company that previously relied on a team of human analysts to dissect the market is now centering its business on supplying real-time data feeds for intelligent agents and automated bots. For analysts accustomed to producing in-depth studies, the space for independent research appears to be shrinking as product automation takes center stage.
