$5,499 Order Dominates 57% of Kalshi’s Ether Volume - Signaling Trading Bots Behind Market Liquidity

A single order size valued at exactly $5,499 accounted for 57% of sampled ether perpetual trading volume on Kalshi. A CoinDesk analysis of public trading data from the US exchange revealed an unusual volume structure driven by a single recurring order size.

A similar pattern was observed in other futures instruments on the same platform. Findings in the bitcoin perpetual market show two recurring orders at $2,500 and $5,000 accounted for 54% of total sampled volume. The persistent flow of identical trades obscures organic participation from other market participants.

Clustering around identical nominal amounts occurred across an extended observation window. An analysis of data between June 19 and September 20, 2026, gathered 46 one-hour trading samples. The results showed that 43 out of 46 ether transaction samples consistently revolved and centered around a uniform dollar target.

Automated Program Footprints Behind the Order Book

The mechanics of the algorithm become evident when comparing fiat nominal value against the number of crypto units in each order. The number of ether contracts entering the market constantly adjusted with asset price movements at the time, but the final value remained pinned to a virtually fixed dollar amount. This mechanical pattern of maintaining a constant spend is identical to automated trading program operations executing fixed capital allocations repeatedly - a mechanism often referred to as ‘clips’ in the trading industry.

Kalshi currently operates under regulatory oversight from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The exchange initially built its reputation on prediction market products before expanding into bitcoin perpetual futures in late May 2026.

Volume Figures Are Not a Reflection of Liquidity

Heavy involvement of automated programs in generating trading volume creates a skewed perspective for market observers. Continuous orders inflating daily volume figures can make an exchange appear significantly more active than actual organic demand suggests.

For market participants, tracking volume origins is an essential prerequisite before deploying capital. Analyzing order sources is critical to evaluating true market depth and assessing how smoothly large orders can be absorbed without causing slippage.

Ahead of the report’s publication, Kalshi representatives had not provided official comment to CoinDesk regarding the dominance of repetitive trades on their exchange.
