AI Agent Breaches GitBook Credentials - Mass Token Revocation as PancakeSwap Secures Documentation

Technical documentation provider GitBook reported a targeted security breach of its infrastructure credentials on November 2, 2026, at 19:00 CET (18:00 UTC). The cyberattack involved an AI agent directly targeting GitBook system access. The platform emphasized that the breach did not originate from its internally developed AI products, but was instead a targeted assault on system credentials.

In response to the incident, the team immediately shut down applications and documentation sites requiring authenticated access. GitBook revoked all user personal API tokens and requested customers to rotate third-party integration secrets, as well as reconnect GitBook MCP servers. So far, the internal investigation team stated it found no evidence of modifications to customer documentation or content.

Four Categories of Potentially Exposed Data

GitBook’s internal review identified four categories of data potentially exposed to the attackers. The first category includes integration tokens, followed by Git Sync secrets used to connect source code repositories with documentation pages.

The other two impacted data groups are customer API tokens and visitor query logs from the GitBook Assistant feature. Despite the risk of data exposure across these four areas, the platform confirmed that guide text and materials remain intact without external alterations.

Precautionary Measures by PancakeSwap and Trade.xyz

News of the breach prompted mitigation measures from Web3 protocols utilizing GitBook services. Decentralized exchange PancakeSwap chose to temporarily take down its documentation pages as a precaution. The PancakeSwap developer team migrated all documentation materials to their own self-managed, independent infrastructure.

PancakeSwap assured that its core application systems and smart contracts remain secure and unaffected. The exchange operators also reminded the community that official protocol documentation never requests transaction approvals or crypto wallet connections.

Prior to PancakeSwap’s migration, trading platform Trade.xyz detected unauthorized activity on its GitBook pages on the morning of November 2, 2026. The Trade.xyz technical team regained control of the page by 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time.

Automated AI Testing Exploits Become Reality

The GitBook credential breach reinforces warnings issued by Google Threat Intelligence Group and Mandiant in late October 2026. The security report highlighted threat actors exploiting automated AI testing frameworks to conduct real-world cyber intrusions.

For Web3 developers and users alike, this incident serves as a concrete reminder of the critical importance of securing API credentials and remaining vigilant regarding technical documentation pages.
