Binance has confirmed plans to close accounts for affected customers in the European Union, effective December 31, 2026. The move comes following the conclusion of the transition period under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework.
Official notifications have been sent directly to users in France, Spain, Italy, and Poland. The termination of services was decided after the crypto exchange failed to secure a MiCA compliance license ahead of the July 1 deadline.
However, the year-end closure date is not the only critical deadline account holders must watch.
What Small Accounts Will Have to Pay
Starting November 29, 2026, Binance will apply a monthly maintenance fee of 0.025% of the remaining crypto balance or a minimum of 10 USDC, whichever is greater. The 10 USDC minimum threshold places a heavy financial burden, particularly on small portfolios.
Calculations show a disproportionate impact: account holders with a $1,000 balance will see 1% deducted each month, while accounts holding $100 will lose up to 10% monthly. For customers whose crypto asset balances fall below the 10 USDC minimum fee, the exchange reserves the right to deduct the entire remaining balance down to zero.
Deduction Schedule and Withdrawal Options
The balance deduction mechanism is structured in stages. The monthly maintenance fee will be taken from USDC balances first. If the USDC balance in an account is insufficient, the exchange system will deduct from other crypto holdings still available in the user’s wallet.
The fee calculation process will occur in two stages. The first deduction calculation is scheduled to run within a three-day window after November 29, 2026. Subsequently, the second fee calculation phase will take place after December 24, just days before the final account closures on December 31.
Amid the announced closure schedule and new fees, access to both fiat and crypto withdrawals remains open as normal, with no unilateral balance freezes by the exchange. Nevertheless, users are urged to complete their withdrawals before November 29 to avoid incurring the monthly maintenance fee.
For account holders in France, Spain, Italy, and Poland, leaving assets abandoned in exchange wallets risks triggering monthly balance deductions before the year-end deadline arrives.
