Bitcoin (BTC) price surged over 5% during trading on September 18, 2026, swiftly reclaiming ground above the psychological $80,000 mark. After breaking through the initial barrier, the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization stabilized and is currently trading around the $80,800 level. The rally unfolded alongside a technical trend reversal recorded on the 4-hour chart.
The upward momentum originated when the price dipped to touch a local bottom at $75,560. At that point, a cascade of short positions held by traders was forcibly liquidated by market action. The liquidation mechanism forced sellers to buy back the asset to cover losses, creating a chain reaction of buying pressure that accelerated Bitcoin’s climb.
Buying Pressure Without Extreme Overbought Territory
Bitcoin’s momentum is evident in the Relative Strength Index (RSI) readings on the daily chart. The momentum indicator climbed to 62.93, crossing above its moving average at 57.38. This metric signals solid buying momentum from market participants stepping in to support the price.
Despite the gains, the RSI indicator retains structural headroom as it has not yet crossed into extreme overbought territory. This technical condition confirms room for further price expansion before facing the risk of profit-taking from short-term buyers.
Bullish Supertrend and New Dynamic Support
Bitcoin’s vertical move also pushed the price above its 20-day Simple Moving Average (SMA). The moving average line resting at $78,150 was decisively breached and cleared. The level, which had served as overhead resistance for some time, has now flipped into immediate dynamic support, ready to provide a cushion should the price pull back.
Confirmation of the trend reversal also came from the Supertrend indicator on the 4-hour chart. The trend indicator flashed an official bullish signal following the breakout above bearish resistance at $78,597. Clearing this upper barrier immediately established a new support floor at $77,828 for subsequent price action.
For market participants, confirming the sustained reversal now leaves one decisive milestone. Proof of the move hinges on a daily candle close above the $82,000 line to firmly lock in the upward momentum.
