Bitcoin ETFs recorded $386.3 million in net outflows across the first seven trading days of October 2026. Major crypto ETF products on US exchanges - spanning Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana - simultaneously logged negative performance over the same period.
The month had initially started on solid footing. On October 1 and 2, Bitcoin ETFs gathered $292.6 million in net inflows. An additional $118.8 million flowed in on October 6, but that was not enough to offset the subsequent wave of selling pressure.
What shifted was not just the direction of capital in Bitcoin, but an outflow pressure that has now broadened across the entire institutional crypto portfolio.
Worst Day Since June
The peak of the asset sell-off in Bitcoin ETFs occurred last Wednesday. That trading session marked the worst day for Bitcoin ETFs since June 2026, accounting for the largest share of the total weekly capital losses.
This pressure followed redemptions of $1.29 billion the previous week. The arrival of a new week failed to stem the outflows, with cumulative capital exiting Bitcoin ETFs reaching $386.3 million in just seven trading days.
Conditions for Ethereum ETFs were even more strained. In Friday’s session alone, the investment vehicles posted a net outflow of $56.1 million. That daily redemption officially extended the capital outflow streak for Ethereum ETFs to nine consecutive trading days without pause.
At the same time, Solana-based ETFs also posted negative returns. With the three largest crypto assets in the US market simultaneously in the red, institutional liquidity appeared to be pulled broadly across sectors.
Why Is the Pattern Different from September?
The direction of capital flows in early October stands in stark contrast to market dynamics just weeks earlier. In mid-September 2026, when the cloture vote for the Clarity Act failed in the US Senate, institutional market sentiment reflected strong optimism.
At the time, Bitcoin ETFs immediately logged nine consecutive trading sessions of net inflows. Total fresh capital entering the market over the nine days following the regulatory vote failure reached roughly $3 billion.
Now, the opposite scenario is unfolding on trading desks. Without fresh catalysts, early-month inflows ground to a halt and gave way to steady withdrawals that kept buyers under pressure.
Total Assets Still Above $100 Billion
Despite the market facing hundreds of millions of dollars in selling over the past week, the cumulative standing of Bitcoin ETFs has not lost its core foundation. Since their public debut, cumulative net inflows for these products remain at $57.6 billion.
Total assets under management across all US Bitcoin ETFs also hold firm at $100.6 billion. The $386.3 million in outflows over the first seven days of October reflects short-term caution rather than a core portfolio dump by fund managers.
For daily market participants, the data highlights one clear reality: institutional risk appetite can reverse in a matter of days. Those banking on an early-quarter seasonal rally now face a market opting to preserve liquidity rather than chase upside.
