LSE Gandeng Induk Kraken Tokenisasi 100 Saham Terbesar UK - Ironinya Investor Inggris Tak Bisa Beli

LSE Partners With Kraken Parent to Tokenize Top 100 UK Stocks - Yet British Investors Can’t Buy In

The London Stock Exchange (LSE) is pushing beyond the operational boundaries of traditional markets. Partnering with Payward - the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken - the UK’s oldest exchange operator is preparing to bring its top 100 equities to the tokenization platform xStocks. The initial batch of these stocks is scheduled to launch publicly in the coming weeks.

The LSE joins an ecosystem that has already generated tens of billions of dollars in trading volume. Ahead of the official partnership announcement, total trading volume on xStocks reached $40 billion, up from $38 billion on August 18. This growth momentum extends from July, when Payward partnered with GTN to open up stock markets in Hong Kong, the UK, Europe, and South Korea, bringing over 500 tokenized assets and $37 billion in volume to the platform. Of the latest $40 billion figure, nearly half - or $20 billion - has been settled directly on-chain across more than 200,000 asset holders.

The appeal of xStocks lies in complete user ownership. Investors can trade these shares 24/7 without exchange holiday interruptions. Furthermore, xStocks assets can be freely withdrawn to self-custody wallets and connected to various on-chain financial applications.

The utility of xStocks is also expanding across Payward’s exchange ecosystem. Kraken already permits clients in the European Economic Area (EEA) to use these tokenized assets as collateral for futures and margin trading on the Kraken Pro platform.

The tokenized LSE equities market aims to reach a wide audience across more than 110 countries. However, the deal carries an irony: due to domestic regulatory constraints, xStocks are currently unavailable for purchase by investors residing in the UK.

Targeting Continuous Trading via LSE 24

Moving equities into a tokenized format is part of the LSE’s broader long-term roadmap. The exchange plans to list xStocks assets on LSE 24, a planned venue dedicated to 24-hour trading. The launch of this round-the-clock trading operation is currently pending regulatory approvals.

From Digital Replicas to Native Shares

The forward-looking plans of Payward and the LSE extend to issuing native LSE equity tokens. While the current version of xStocks serves as a digital representation of physical shares held in custody, native tokens will be issued directly on blockchain networks. These next-generation equities are designed to be fully fungible, allowing 100% interchangeability with their traditional equity counterparts.

For LSE CEO Julia Hoggett, tokenization innovations must advance while preserving public trust and the critical role of regulated markets. Payward Co-CEO Arjun Sethi echoed a similar sentiment, describing the unification of licensed financial markets with blockchain infrastructure as the core vision behind their collaboration.
