Polymarket has officially launched 15-minute prediction markets for gold and silver commodities through an expanded partnership with Chainlink. The introduction of these two precious metals marks the platform’s first expansion into non-crypto assets within a short-duration contract format. Under the agreement, Chainlink has been designated as the official oracle provider for Polymarket’s entire suite of high-speed up/down prediction markets.
The new product expansion follows cumulative trading volume surpassing $11 billion across Polymarket’s 5-minute and 15-minute crypto price prediction markets. That figure underscores strong user demand for fast-paced contracts. However, what sets the gold and silver markets apart is not just the asset class, but the underlying pricing mechanism powering them.
Why There Are No UMA Disputes
The most fundamental difference lies in how contracts are settled. Standard Polymarket markets rely on UMA token voting and dispute mechanisms, which include a two-hour challenge window before results become final. In contrast, these fast-paced gold and silver markets settle instantly using Chainlink’s time-weighted average price (TWAP) benchmark without a challenge procedure.
This rapid settlement is underpinned by data provider infrastructure. Polymarket’s fast-market pricing system is powered by Chainlink Data Streams and the Chainlink Runtime Environment. This technological combination delivers sub-second data feeds designed to remain resilient even during blockchain network congestion or cloud service outages.
Polymarket Chief Legal Officer Neal Kumar stated that the 24/7 Chainlink data integration enables traders to take positions around the clock with precise resolution. This uninterrupted data service supports market participants looking to enter contract positions at any time.
Contract Rules and Future Targets
The outcome determination in these commodity markets follows a binary up-or-down format. Contracts resolve to ‘Up’ if the closing price is at or above the opening price. Conversely, the outcome resolves to ‘Down’ if the closing price finishes below the opening price. Throughout the duration of the contract, shares for each outcome trade within a price range of $0 to $1.
Gold and silver represent the first step in Polymarket’s product diversification. The launch of these two precious metals marks the platform’s initial foray into non-crypto assets in a short-duration format. Polymarket’s future roadmap includes introducing fast contracts for other commodities, equities, and foreign exchange (FX) markets.
For Polymarket traders, the introduction of commodity instruments provides around-the-clock market access backed by precise data resolution, without being held up by a two-hour dispute window.
