Pompliano Umumkan Tether Tuntaskan Audit KPMG - Tapi Debat Status Verifikasinya Baru Saja Dimulai

Pompliano Announces Tether Completes KPMG Audit - But Debate Over Verification Status Has Just Begun

Anthony Pompliano recently announced on X that Tether has completed a full audit by one of the Big Four accounting firms. The firm in question is KPMG, and this process prompted Pompliano to state that the stablecoin issuer is proven to hold the assets it claims. He even asserted that those who have doubted Tether’s reserves must now start looking for new jobs because the empty vault narrative has been shattered.

USDT’s position as the world’s largest stablecoin with billions of dollars in circulation makes the validity of its reserves directly impact the entire crypto market. To back the value of their tokens, Tether holds not only United States bonds, but also Bitcoin and physical gold reserves. In this examination process, KPMG auditors reportedly went in person to physically count each of the company’s gold bars. Given that Tether previously only relied on attestation documents from the firm BDO, KPMG’s involvement marks a sharp leap in transparency if this full audit claim is proven true.

But this short tweet does not immediately close all technical questions on the discussion table.

Full Audit Versus Mere Attestation

Pompliano’s claim has actually sparked a new debate among market participants regarding the status of the document generated by KPMG. The public is now questioning whether the document is truly a comprehensive financial audit containing a written auditor’s opinion, or merely a limited reserve attestation. The technical difference between the two determines the weight of institutional trust. An attestation document only confirms that the claimed assets were indeed stored in the vault at a specific point in time when the examiner arrived. On the other hand, a financial audit requires auditors to examine transaction history, assess the company’s operational risks, and test the resilience of internal control systems over an entire period of time.

New Regulatory Standards Test

The certainty of this document’s status carries long-term weight that goes beyond short-term market sentiment. The United States is currently drafting a strict regulatory framework to regulate stablecoin issuers through bills such as the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act. The main question is whether the level of examination in KPMG’s version is sufficient to meet the standard criteria that will be required by these new rules. If the document resulting from KPMG’s work turns out to be just a report attesting to the amount of assets at a specific time, Tether might have to be re-examined to meet the requirements for legal operations in the United States jurisdiction.

For USDT holders, the news of the completion of KPMG’s examination at least dispels long-standing fears of asset manipulation. However, before the full report is released to the public and its contents dissected, the euphoria surrounding the audit results still leaves room for doubt that readers should watch closely.
