Messaging app Telegram has officially begun distributing its self-custodial Gram Wallet directly within the app’s settings menu. The initial rollout phase targets a select group of users ahead of a full expansion. CEO Pavel Durov announced that the feature will be gradually released to more than one billion users over the next few weeks. Gram Wallet now serves as the default wallet across the entire Telegram ecosystem.
Unlike exchange custodial wallets, Gram Wallet is designed to give users direct control over their assets without third-party intermediaries. Its feature suite includes peer-to-peer transfers, general payments, and in-app purchases. The feature also supports Telegram Collectibles transactions, covering digital gifts, usernames, and phone numbers. All of these transactions are processed instantly with zero fees. On the technical side, network validators approved the Gram Wallet smart contract prior to launch. The approved contract design allows for future system upgrades without requiring users to undergo forced migrations.
Volume Surges 137% Following Rebranding
In the spot market, the GRAM token responded to the rollout with a spike in trading activity. The asset was trading around $1.40 at the time of reporting, up 2.07% over the past 24 hours. Its price briefly touched $1.45 before selling pressure pulled valuations back down. Despite the modest price gain, the token’s trading volume surged by 137%. This price movement marks the first major market activity since Toncoin rebranded to GRAM along with its ticker on June 15, 2026. The rebranding decision took effect after securing 81.22% support from the community, while the underlying blockchain retains the name The Open Network.
The rebranding transition proceeded seamlessly with no additional steps required for investors. Coin holders did not need to swap assets. All balance records, wallet addresses, smart contract addresses, and staking positions remained unchanged. The modification applied strictly to the name, ticker, and coin logo.
Undisclosed Security Details
Even with a rollout targeting one billion devices, certain technical details have yet to be disclosed to the public. Telegram has not released account recovery documentation for users who lose their devices or forget their wallet credentials. The policy regarding zero-fee transactions also remains unclear, as there are no specifics on whether fee waivers apply uniformly across all types of transfers. Rolling out crypto wallet access to over a third of internet users introduces significant operational challenges, and the real test will come when millions of people inevitably forget where they stored their passwords.
