Tether Bayar Jutaan Dolar ke Firma Penasihat Trump - Orangnya Kini Pimpin Tether US

Tether Paid Millions to Trump Advisor’s Firm - He Now Leads Tether US

A formal US Senate inquiry is now targeting Tether’s leadership. Senator Richard Blumenthal, the top Democrat on the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, sent formal inquiry letters to Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino and consulting firm Nxum Group. The primary scrutiny centers on multi-million-dollar transactions from Tether to Nxum, a firm founded by Bo Hines and his father, while Hines was still serving as a White House crypto policy adviser.

Hines is no stranger to the Washington policy landscape. The former crypto policy adviser to President Donald Trump now heads Tether’s operational branch in the United States (Tether US). However, Blumenthal raised concerns over alleged conflicts of interest and serious ethics violations: Tether allegedly channeled payments while Hines was still active in the White House and directly involved in drafting crypto legislation and stablecoin regulations favorable to Tether.

Flow of Funds Amid Regulatory Drafting

An investigative report by The Wall Street Journal revealed that Nxum received substantial consulting payments from Tether during Hines’ tenure as a presidential adviser. The business ties between the two parties also extended to political activities. A previous CoinDesk report found that Nxum earned millions of dollars as the primary campaign ad vendor for a political action committee (PAC) affiliated with Tether, despite the family firm having minimal political experience.

The revolving door of personnel between the White House circle and the consulting firm has continued. Nxum reportedly recently hired another former White House crypto adviser, Harry Jung. Meanwhile, the executive crypto adviser role under Trump, which was later held by Patrick Witt, has now been left vacant without a successor.

Ardoino Slams Media Leaks

Tether stated it is aware of the allegations and maintained that an internal investigation by independent outside counsel found no evidence of legal wrongdoing. On the other hand, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino fired back sharply at Blumenthal’s move. Ardoino blasted the senator, accusing him of ignoring facts and deliberately leaking investigative materials to the media before seeking official confirmation from Tether.

69% Odds of Restoring Subpoena Power

The letter to Tether is not the only file on Blumenthal’s desk. The senator is expanding his investigative focus across several other major crypto entities. Political pressure on the industry could intensify alongside shifts in the electoral landscape. Prediction market Kalshi currently prices a 69% probability of Democrats regaining control of the Senate, an outcome that would restore full subpoena power to the investigative committee.

For crypto market participants watching US regulatory developments, this new chapter of inquiries underscores the intense scrutiny facing the stablecoin industry. Tether’s standing in Washington now hinges on documentary evidence presented before the Senate committee and the shifting balance of political power on Capitol Hill.
