Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Truth Social, is officially selling something that was previously free: speed. Through a new paid API service called Truth API, Wall Street trading firms can now purchase real-time, machine-readable access to the most influential posts on Truth Social - including President Donald Trump’s own account.
The service explicitly targets high-frequency trading (HFT) and algorithmic firms that require a direct, zero-delay feed. Its targeted launch for institutional clients is August 1, 2026.
Why Fractions of a Second Matter
In the world of algorithmic trading, the first to know is often the first to win. Trump’s posts on Truth Social have repeatedly proven to move markets - from stocks, currencies, and commodities to digital assets - including commentary on the ongoing US-Iran conflict. Trump’s Truth Social account had 12.9 million followers as of Thursday morning, making it the largest account on the platform.
“Markets already move on Truth Social posts,” said TMTG interim CEO Kevin McGurn. Truth API, he added, “delivers a direct, licensed, real-time feed of the platform’s most market-moving Truths while advancing our strategy to monetize proprietary assets through a high-margin, recurring revenue stream.” In other words: if the markets are already reacting to those posts, why not sell the fastest lane to read them?
Not Just Trump’s Account
The feed doesn’t stop at a single account. Other prominent Truth Social accounts included in the service feature Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and FBI Director Kash Patel. Data will be sold to trading firms, financial data providers, media outlets, and other businesses monitoring market sentiment from influential accounts.
McGurn also addressed firms that have been covertly scraping Truth Social data in violation of terms of service. “We’re going to create a lot of friction for those folks that aren’t coming to us directly,” he said - signaling that this official paid channel will also serve to clamp down on unauthorized scrapers.
Shadow of Conflict of Interest
What makes this scheme controversial isn’t just business. TMTG trades on Nasdaq under the ticker DJT, and according to SEC filings, approximately 114 million TMTG shares owned by Trump were transferred to a revocable trust controlled by Donald Trump Jr. after Trump won the presidential election. This means profits from selling access to the president’s posts ultimately flow back to the same family circle.
Virginia Canter, an ethics lawyer from the Democracy Defenders Fund, called the scheme “a huge conflict of interest,” according to CNBC. The lingering question for investors: when a head of state’s words are sold as a premium data product, who truly profits from the next market shock?
