Self-directed brokerage platform Webull has officially added crypto trading services for its user base in Canada starting today. The move expands the company’s crypto footprint, following earlier rollouts across the United States, Australia, and Brazil. The addition of digital assets complements Webull Canada’s existing financial catalog, which already provides trading facilities for stocks, ETFs, and options.
In developing its service, Webull did not build the system from scratch. The platform utilizes Coinbase’s Crypto-as-a-Service (CaaS) infrastructure as the primary engine driving its crypto features. Under this arrangement, Coinbase handles the technical load of providing trading capabilities while also acting as custodian to safeguard Webull customer assets.
Riding the Surge in Crypto Adoption
At launch, Webull Canada’s website lists 10 cryptocurrencies available for trading. The initial roster includes large-cap assets such as Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana, along with several additional digital tokens.
The timing of the rollout coincides with the release of investor growth data by local capital market regulators. A report from the Ontario Securities Commission noted that digital asset ownership in Canada reached 25% of the total population this year. That adoption rate has more than doubled from the 10% recorded in 2023.
Regulatory Clarity
The entry of international brokerage firms into Canada comes as the federal government works to refine rules governing the crypto sector. One crucial legislative proposal currently prioritized is a dedicated supervisory framework for stablecoins.
The government released the draft of Canada’s Stablecoin Act shortly after the 2025 federal budget announcement. The proposed legislation introduces binding, uniform requirements for both domestic and foreign issuers seeking to operate. With licensing boundaries no longer in a gray area, trading platforms now have clear regulatory certainty before committing operational capital to the market.
