Zcash Private Transaction Time Slashed to 200 Milliseconds - Mobile Users Stand to Benefit the Most

Hiding transaction traces on the blockchain no longer requires long wait times. An open-source cryptographic toolkit named Zakura Common was officially released on August 29, 2026, delivering a major efficiency leap for the Zcash ecosystem by slashing private transaction construction times from over 3 seconds to under 200 milliseconds.

The impact is immediately felt on end-user device performance. For mobile users, proof generation speeds surged more than 14-fold, while desktop computers saw over a fivefold improvement. News of the toolkit launch was well-received by the market: the price of ZEC rose about 5% to trade around $839 shortly after the announcement, extending positive momentum following sentiment around Grayscale’s first spot Zcash ETF launch.

Under the Hood of Faster Performance

A series of specific under-the-hood overhauls drove Zcash’s new cryptographic speeds. Sinsemilla hashing recorded the sharpest performance gain with a speed jump of more than 21 times. zk-SNARK verification also operates four to eight times faster, a boost that will greatly help full nodes validate incoming transactions without excessive computational overhead.

On the user side, trial decryption - the process where wallets scan the entire blockchain to identify a user’s shielded transactions - improved by more than 1.5 times. Given that Zakura Common is released under the MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses, wallet and node developers can directly integrate the new code libraries on their own without waiting for a scheduled network hard fork.

“Shielded wallets using Zakura Common, and full nodes like Zakura itself, all benefit,” said Sean Bowe, co-founder of Zcash. Vizor Wallet is already among the first wallet projects to adopt Zakura’s new library. All performance improvements can be implemented immediately because the code does not alter Zcash’s core consensus rules.

A Step Toward the Next Upgrade

Zakura also has further plans beyond the current speed upgrades. The development team is preparing for an upcoming network upgrade named NU7, specifically designed to reduce Zcash’s average block time to around 25 seconds.

For privacy-focused crypto enthusiasts, the series of upgrades to Zcash’s cryptographic tooling addresses longstanding challenges regarding how sluggish anonymity protocols could be on mobile phones. High-level confidentiality protection no longer requires users to stare at a loading screen, instead operating at lightning speed right from the palm of their hand.
