Aerodrome Finance is preparing to take center stage with plans to expand to the Ethereum network in late July or the third quarter of 2026. The decentralized exchange (DEX) with the highest trading volume in the Base Layer-2 ecosystem will bring EURC stablecoin liquidity to its new chain.
The timeline for this move was spotted via community reports on the CoinMarketCap calendar. As of writing, the Aerodrome development team has not yet issued an official announcement. Nonetheless, the expansion plan makes sense following a series of recent structural maneuvers by the protocol.
Heading to the Largest Liquidity Pool
Crossing over to the Ethereum mainnet marks the next strategic step for Aerodrome. The platform, which previously operated exclusively on Coinbase-backed Base network, originated as a fork of Velodrome. The two recently decided to merge, uniting into a single entity named Aero.
The goal of that merger has been clear from the start: challenging Uniswap v4’s dominance. By expanding to Ethereum, Aerodrome is no longer confined to Layer-2. The protocol is unlocking direct access to the largest liquidity pool across the decentralized finance (DeFi) landscape, stepping onto the same battlefield as veteran market leaders.
Why EURC Is the Main Target
This expansion plan is not merely a clash of prestige between DEXs, but a battle for European fiat transaction volume. Aerodrome is targeting the potential volume of EURC, a token issued by Circle that currently holds the status of the largest euro stablecoin in the crypto ecosystem.
Choosing to launch on Ethereum is calculated with precision. More than half of the world’s total EURC supply currently circulates on the Ethereum network. Aero’s infrastructure presence there will provide a new trading route, facilitating the exchange of this fiat liquidity directly on the main chain.
Testing Resilience on Tougher Terrain
Leading the Base ecosystem proved that Aerodrome’s tokenomics work smoothly in a low-cost environment. Moving to mainnet will test whether the DEX can attract heavyweight liquidity providers to migrate their capital from other protocols.
If the late July launch materializes, the unified Aero entity will solidify its position as a serious challenger to Uniswap. The DeFi competition is now officially shifting from the Layer-2 periphery straight to the heart of the crypto industry.
Reported based on the CoinMarketCap calendar.
