Bitcoin Sentiment Hits Record Low Following Binance Breach - $8.9 Billion in Futures Holds Firm

A $6.34 billion breach at Binance dragged public Bitcoin sentiment to an all-time low. Santiment data as of Nov. 6, 2026, shows the ratio of positive to negative discussions for Bitcoin plunged to 0.37 on Oct. 29-30, 2026. That figure indicates negative commentary dominated social feeds by a 2.7 to 1 ratio.

The crypto community’s attention was locked squarely on Binance. On Oct. 29, issues surrounding the exchange claimed the top six positions on Santiment’s trending topics list, surpassing discussions on Federal Reserve policy, MicroStrategy accumulation, and the U.S. midterm elections. However, the uproar in comment sections was only the prelude to heavy fund withdrawals in the spot market.

Outflows of Thousands of Coins from Exchanges

Social media panic quickly translated into real withdrawals from platform wallets. Between the hack and Nov. 5, 2026, a net total of 28,316 BTC flowed out of Binance wallets after exchange operators temporarily froze withdrawals and reopened them gradually starting Nov. 1. Across all global exchanges tracked by Santiment, Bitcoin reserves shrank by 38,631 BTC, or a 2.92% decline, between Oct. 25 and Nov. 5, 2026.

The heaviest pressure occurred on Oct. 29, 2026. In that single day, net exchange withdrawals reached 22,317 BTC and approximately 324,640 ETH. The stablecoin market also saw massive capital movement: USDT outflows on the Ethereum network touched 1.71 billion USDT on the same day, followed by a further withdrawal of 3.94 billion USDT on Nov. 2 as Binance resumed withdrawal services.

Sell-offs and asset transfers also hit other tokens entangled in the incident. ENA, the token of the Ethena protocol, recorded net exchange outflows of 208.62 million ENA after the hacker swapped roughly 217.5 million stolen ENA worth $40 million into Ethereum via decentralized exchanges (DEXs). Meanwhile, BNB spot trading volume surged to its highest daily level since Feb. 5, 2026, with transactions topping $3.78 billion on Oct. 29.

Why the Derivatives Market Remained Orderly

A contrasting picture unfolded in the derivatives market. While spot asset holders rushed to withdraw their balances, futures activity proceeded in a relatively orderly fashion. Bitcoin futures open interest on Binance held steady around $8.97 billion as of Nov. 5, 2026. At the same time, Ethereum futures open interest stood at $8.03 billion, while BNB futures open interest was recorded at $427 million with BNB trading around $692.

The composure among derivatives market participants was also evident in Bitcoin funding rates, which remained in positive territory within normal ranges. This positioning indicates that futures traders did not collectively take aggressive bearish short positions. Derivatives market players appeared to decouple the operational risk of an exchange exploit from the fundamental value proposition of crypto assets themselves. For investors, the divergence between social media panic and futures market resilience shows that large-scale capital does not automatically flee just because of fleeting negative sentiment.
