Blockchain.com officially secured a full Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license for custody services from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) on July 22, 2026. This confirmation follows a conditional approval they obtained from the same authority in December 2025, wrapping up a long licensing process in the island territory.
The new license does not stop at securing digital assets. According to details in the licensing document, Blockchain.com now holds the legality to operate crypto-to-fiat exchange services as well as crypto-to-crypto transactions directly under CIMA supervision. For an entity that had actually secured VASP registration status in the Cayman Islands since May 2022, this custody license validates the operational foundation they have laid since the beginning.
Securing Compliance Across Three Continents
The confirmation step in the Caymans is not just about adding to the list of local documents, but rather the final piece of their cross-jurisdictional licensing strategy. Blockchain.com Co-CEO Lane Kasselman referred to the CIMA licensing achievement as completing their global regulatory “trifecta.”
Before securing full licensing from the island territory, the exchange platform had already established its compliance within the European regulatory framework. They hold registered status with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK and have also paved the way to comply with the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework in mainland Europe. These three legal pillars now form the protective foundation for Blockchain.com’s business continuity.
Its status as a fully regulated exchange across three independent supervisory systems reinforces its market footprint. The legal scope, which now stretches from the Caribbean region to the United Kingdom and the European Union, places Blockchain.com among the crypto platforms with the broadest licensing reach on the global financial map.
Building Long-Term Trust
In an industry that is slowly beginning to embrace conventional compliance, pursuing multi-layered licensing under national financial supervision demands a long-term commitment. However, the company’s leadership has strong reasons for why their team is willing to go through all this compliance bureaucracy.
“We believe that strong regulation is vital to the long-term development of digital assets,” Kasselman stated in response to the issuance of the top license from CIMA representatives.
For institutional-scale crypto service providers, a series of licenses from strict legal regimes is the currency of trust. Compliance with FCA and MiCA standards, along with CIMA completeness, ensures the platform has the certainty to operate legally as the global regulatory framework for digital assets is increasingly sharpened.
