Coinbase Sulap Aplikasinya Jadi Bursa Saham 24 Jam - Tapi Fitur Ini Terlarang Bagi Pengguna AS

Coinbase Turns App into 24-Hour Stock Exchange - But Feature Is Off-Limits to US Users

Coinbase will begin offering tokenized stocks to customers outside the United States in late July 2026. These new assets are promised to have 1:1 backing from underlying shares, meaning buyers will still receive dividend payouts and voting rights just like conventional shareholders. The offering marks the early transition of Coinbase from a pure crypto exchange into an all-in-one financial hub.

Coinbase Canada Country Director and CEO Eric Richmond described this strategy as phase two of their Canadian expansion, dubbed the Everything Exchange. While phase one was spent building crypto exchange infrastructure, phase two is aimed at merging crypto assets, tokenized equities, and traditional financial services into a single app. The ultimate goal is to create a seamless, 24/7 financial transaction platform for Canadians.

This innovation reshapes how equities are traded behind the scenes.

Brokers Free to Mint Tokens

To enable trading of these assets, public companies are not required to issue blockchain-specific shares from the outset. Instead, brokers or dealers can mint tokenized versions of existing shares already circulating in traditional markets. Holders of these digital tokens will enjoy identical economic rights to the originals, while brokers retain legal share ownership on paper.

Coinbase previously hinted at its tokenized equity plans during its System Update event in June 2026. On the same stage, the exchange showcased a suite of advanced new products: an SEC-registered AI investment advisor, AI agents for market order execution, stock options trading, prediction markets, and pre-IPO products.

Why There Is No Canadian Dollar Stablecoin Yet

Amid ambitions to build an all-in-one app for all things money in Canada, a glaring gap remains: Coinbase has yet to list a Canadian dollar-backed stablecoin. Richmond pointed to surging global stablecoin transaction volume, which reached $1.8 trillion throughout June 2026 - up 125% compared to the same period last year.

In the local Canadian market, Coinbase has yet to find a single stablecoin issuer that meets strict local regulatory standards. For now, the company is taking a wait-and-see stance until the Stablecoin Act is passed - legislation that will define stablecoins purely as payment instruments rather than investment vehicles.

While awaiting regulatory clarity, Coinbase’s expansion roadmap continues to broaden. The platform secured a MiCA license through Luxembourg authorities, legalizing operations across 27 EU member states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. In Asia, it streamlined verification for mainland Chinese users by accepting local national ID cards and mainland residential addresses.

The boundary between crypto markets and Wall Street stock exchanges is growing increasingly thin. For customers outside the United States, the option to trade global equities outside standard market hours is a practical offering, but the ultimate effectiveness of the rollout still hinges on green lights from local financial regulators.
