Blockchain investigator ZachXBT sparked debate after announcing plans to stop accepting assistance requests from crypto crime victims in seven countries. Canada, the United Kingdom, India, Nigeria, Morocco, Algeria, and Bangladesh are on the list of regions that will likely no longer receive his tracking services.
This decision did not happen in a vacuum. The figure, who frequently dismantles crypto hacker networks, reasoned that requests from the seven regions gave him the “worst case-handling experiences” of his career. Following a series of unpleasant incidents, he plans to implement automatic rejections for new assistance requests coming from the relevant jurisdictions.
Blocking Access on New Platform
This restriction plan will apparently be multi-layered. ZachXBT is currently building a dedicated web platform, and he intends to restrict access to services on his future new site by relying on user geographic location filters.
As of this writing, this firm stance remains plans on paper. No active bans are in place, the official website in question has not yet launched, and written eligibility rules have not been published. This blocking policy will only take effect once his support infrastructure is ready for use.
Track Record in High-Profile Cases
The loss of access to ZachXBT’s assistance is a serious concern, given his long history of solving difficult cases. Recently, his expertise was proven when he stepped in to help unravel a social engineering scam. The case resulted in losses of at least $65 million from several Coinbase exchange users within just a two-month span.
In a separate incident, his precision in tracking cryptocurrency was also tested when a fake Ledger app successfully deceived the system. The trap software managed to steal $9.5 million and claimed more than 50 victims, before its money laundering flow was eventually dismantled by the investigator.
What is Left for Victims?
It is important to note that this block is purely for ZachXBT’s personal assistance channel. This policy does not cut off formal legal access for victims of crypto exploits in the blacklisted countries.
Digital wallet owners whose funds have been drained still have the right and are encouraged to report directly to local police, the exchanges, or relevant regulators in their respective regions.
