Galaxy Digital Bayar Nama Stadion Kampus 15 Tahun - Tapi Ini Sebenarnya Soal Rebutan Listrik 1,6 Gigawatt

Galaxy Digital Secures 15-Year College Stadium Naming Rights - But It’s Really About a 1.6-Gigawatt Power Grab

The name of a university football stadium in Texas is set to become ‘Galaxy Stadium.’ But the deal behind it tells a much bigger story than just a sign on a building - it is about who controls the power and land powering the future of computing.

Galaxy Digital has signed a 15-year naming rights agreement with Texas Tech, also becoming the official digital asset and data center partner for Texas Tech Athletics. Financial terms were not disclosed by either party, and the rebranded stadium will debut on September 5, 2026, when Texas Tech opens its season against Abilene Christian.

More Than Just a Sports Sponsorship

The agreement goes beyond a logo on the field. Both parties plan to collaborate on artificial intelligence (AI) projects, workforce training, and name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities for student-athletes. For Galaxy, the university serves as both a pipeline to talent and a stage to establish its new identity as an infrastructure player, not just a crypto firm.

The key to that ambition lies roughly 60 miles east of Lubbock. In Dickens County, Galaxy already operates the Helios data center campus with an approved capacity reaching 1.6 gigawatts for AI and high-performance computing (HPC). That gigawatt capacity - not the stadium signage - is the true core of Galaxy’s strategy in Texas.

Texas, The Crypto Industry’s New Battleground

Galaxy’s move reinforces Texas’s standing as America’s crypto industry hub. The state is already home to major Bitcoin miners like Riot Platforms, Cipher Mining, Core Scientific, CleanSpark, IREN, and Hut 8. Corporate dealmaking continues to accelerate: last February, mining hardware manufacturer Canaan acquired a 49% stake in three Texas mining facilities from Cipher Mining for nearly $40 million, and earlier this month MARA Holdings announced plans to acquire a 2-gigawatt site for a digital infrastructure campus combining HPC and Bitcoin mining.

The battle extends beyond land and electricity. Last May, crypto-affiliated political action committees (PACs) poured more than $10 million into backing candidates in Texas congressional primaries - with all six endorsed candidates winning their races. Texas has even enacted state-level Bitcoin policy: Governor Greg Abbott signed legislation creating the Texas Strategic Bitcoin Reserve last year via Senate Bill 21, and in May state officials began transitioning the reserve’s exposure from spot Bitcoin ETFs to directly custodied Bitcoin.

Reading the Winds

Stadium naming rights may grab the headlines, but what is actually being built is a long-term foundation: energy, data centers, and political influence interlocking across a single state. When a company like Galaxy commits its name to a university for 15 years, the stakes clearly go far beyond a single athletic season - it is about the next decade of an increasingly intertwined AI and Bitcoin race.
