South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit officially opened trading for Lighter (LIT) tokens in the won (KRW) pair starting at 1:00 PM KST on August 24, 2026. The token was previously circulating in Upbit’s Bitcoin market with a reference price of 0.00004500 BTC, equivalent to 4,803 won.
The market opening comes with a set of strict rules. Upbit blocks buy orders for the first five minutes after trading begins, while also limiting sell orders priced 10% below the last closing price. Transactions during the first two hours will also only accept limit orders, while market orders are only allowed after that timeframe has passed. Upbit stated that trading could be suspended if liquidity is insufficient after deposits and withdrawals are opened. LIT deposits and withdrawals themselves are only processed via the Ethereum network, referring to the official contract address 0x232ce3bd40fcd6f80f3d55a522d03f25df784ee2.
Direct Access to the Liquidity Pool
Lighter operates as an order-book-based decentralized exchange (DEX) for perpetual futures trading on Ethereum layer 2 (L2). The platform is also integrated with Robinhood Wallet to facilitate transactions for its users. Within this ecosystem, LIT serves as a utility and infrastructure token. Users who lock their tokens through staking are entitled to access the Lighter Liquidity Pool (LLP) facility.
The rules are limited to specific numbers: 1 locked LIT allows the holder to deposit up to 10 USDC into the liquidity pool. If users want to withdraw their assets, the system imposes a waiting period of three full days. The initial token launch distributed 25% of the total supply via airdrop for the community. Other allocations include 50% for ecosystem needs, and 50% for the team and investors, with distribution controlled by a vesting schedule.
Awaiting the South Korean Market Magic
The entry of LIT into Upbit’s won market carries high expectations among market participants. The launch of KRW trading pairs on this exchange has repeatedly triggered sharp price rallies. The ORCA token is one of the most visible examples, with its value surging past the 200% mark shortly after gaining trading access in Upbit’s won market.
For traders interested in testing the opportunities of this afternoon’s launch, the five-minute restriction without buy orders is not just a technical administrative rule, but a decisive pause that could mean the difference between getting a fair price or being swept away by early volatility.
