Ripple has released version 1.1 of the XRPL AI Starter Kit, directly adopting the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) developed by Stripe and Tempo. This developer toolkit also embraces the Open Wallet Standard interface. The combination of these two protocols opens new payment rails for computer programs to conduct autonomous monetary transactions on the XRP Ledger.
This architectural move transforms artificial intelligence agents from simple command-processing tools into funded economic entities.
Machines Paying Their Own Bills
The integration of the MPP standard grants AI agents the ability to execute automated fund settlements. They can run recurring microtransactions to support operational workflows, using either the XRP cryptocurrency or the RLUSD stablecoin.
The autonomous payment system funds three primary needs over time. AI agents can route digital assets directly to purchase external datasets, rent computing power from external servers, and access paid online services. Programmatic wallets settle daily expenses instantly without waiting for credit card authorization from human operators.
No Need to Overhaul Base Code
Infrastructure standardization delivers technical efficiency for third-party software developers. Programmers managing applications built on Stripe’s MPP can now directly receive payment streams from the XRPL.
Out-of-the-box connectivity frees developers from having to dismantle the core architecture of existing operational software. Standard alignment accelerates the integration of web applications with the crypto settlement network.
Expanding Footprint in the Machine Economy
Adopting this additional protocol complements Ripple’s initial moves in the realm of machine-to-machine value exchange. Last June, the company introduced support for the x402 web payment standard as its initial facility for autonomous software transactions.
Integrating MPP from Stripe and Tempo reinforces the XRPL’s position within the machine economy ecosystem. The network is laying down the blueprint to handle high-volume transaction traffic generated by thousands of AI agents.
