Bitcoin fell back below $80,000 over the past 24 hours as of October 26, 2026. The decline came alongside a pullback in tech stocks and heightened investor caution ahead of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision on Wednesday. At the same time, market skepticism surrounding lofty valuations in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector further weighed on global risk appetite.
HashKey senior researcher Tim Sun noted that Bitcoin’s drop was “primarily driven by a broader pullback in global risk assets.” Pressure across the crypto market intensified as spot Bitcoin ETFs faced capital outflows, while the liquidation of leveraged positions in derivatives markets accelerated the sell-off.
Why Capital Is Shifting to Stablecoins
Macroeconomic pressures are currently playing a major role in crypto asset movements. Daniela Hathorn of Capital.com explained that persistent inflation, elevated bond yields, and expectations of further monetary tightening from the Fed continue to dampen market appetite for speculative assets. Hathorn noted that Wednesday’s central bank rate decision and earnings reports from major tech firms could be just as crucial for Bitcoin as developments within the crypto ecosystem itself. According to her, a more hawkish Fed stance could strengthen the US dollar while exerting downward pressure on risk assets.
Stephen Wundke of Algoz views the $80,000 mark as an important psychological threshold for market participants. However, Wundke believes the more fundamental concern lies in declining trading volume. That drop in trading activity comes as investors choose to rotate capital out of altcoins and into stablecoins to curb downside risk.
The $75,000 Area Becomes the Next Critical Support
To sustain its bullish momentum, Bitcoin needs to hold the $82,000 level, which previously served as the launching pad for rallies across August and September. If price fails to stay above that threshold, analysts warn that weakness could trigger a broader correction so long as macroeconomic uncertainty lingers.
Tim Sun warned that if the decline extends beyond current levels, the $75,000 area will serve as Bitcoin’s next critical support line. With this week’s market calendar packed with the central bank’s rate decision and big tech earnings releases, volatility is expected to remain elevated.
For crypto market participants, this week’s slate of events positions the central bank’s decision as the immediate driver of price direction. With trading volumes drying up and the risk of sharp price swings lingering, reducing exposure ahead of the Fed’s official stance is considered the most sensible course of action.
