Strategy has paused its streak of weekly Bitcoin purchases that had been running since mid-September. Throughout the week of October 19 to 25, 2026, the company did not buy or sell any Bitcoin. Instead, corporate cash was allocated to an equity action: Strategy spent $204.9 million to repurchase 2.07 million shares of STRC preferred stock.
$664 Million in Cash Flows into Own Shares
Prioritizing preferred stock is not a new development from just last week. Since early October, Strategy has spent roughly $664 million on its STRC share repurchase program. That spending far outpaced its Bitcoin purchases over the same period, which absorbed just $72.3 million to acquire 851 BTC.
The $204.9 million STRC share repurchase marked the company’s largest transaction in more than a month. The move slashed Strategy’s US dollar cash balance by 46%, leaving $242.4 million in cash reserves. Meanwhile, the firm’s crypto asset reserves held steady at 848,517 BTC. The entire stash was accumulated through a total capital expenditure of $64.02 billion, at an average purchase price of $75,446 per coin.
Strategy’s pause on coin purchases coincided with a price correction across the crypto market. Bitcoin had climbed to touch $84,777 last Wednesday before pulling back toward the $80,000 zone as Strategy’s weekly transactions were reported at zero.
New MSCI Rules Loom in November
Pressure on Strategy is also mounting from potential global index adjustments. Strategy faces possible exclusion from the MSCI Global Investable Market indexes starting November 30, 2026. This follows a new policy announced by MSCI on October 15, which excludes ‘non-operating companies’ whose balance sheets are dominated by a single asset.
MSCI is scheduled to release the official list of companies affected by the new rule on November 11. In the equities market, MSTR shares dropped 2.2% to $142.80 in Monday’s pre-market trading, while STRC preferred shares ticked down 0.01% to $99.35.
Opposite Moves from Strive
In stark contrast to Strategy’s inaction, Strive expanded its digital asset holdings. According to tracking data from the lookonchain account on the X platform, Strive acquired 6,182 BTC worth $511.4 million at an average purchase price of $82,732 per coin.
For market-watching investors, this dynamic highlights the boundaries of cash liquidity: when cash balances are cut by 46% following preferred share buybacks, weekly Bitcoin accumulation can grind to an abrupt halt.
